Where is best for bringing up young children, al fresco living/dining, long sunny days and evenings, near to nice beaches? Also somewhere not too overcrowded and busy or rainy! Would be very thankful for everybodys' opinions...

Try Perth or one of the cities out there in Western Australia cause there are some fantastic places and its definitely not over crowded. Also, if you're looking for work it will be easier over there at the moment than on the Eastern Coast, they have a shortage in different areas.

I'm not being biased either - I live in Melbourne which is on the eastern coast, we have the al fresco dining, but we have the over crowding and rain and it can get cold.

Adelaide, it's the capital of South Australia but still pretty small. The city is small and easy to get around, the beach is on one side of the city and the hills and valleys on the other side.
it's pretty trendy in parts and lots of cafe strips everywhere, summer is fantasic when you can sit outside a pub and it's 30 degrees!
It is the dryest state, Gets up to 40 in summer, as does everywhere realy, but stays a nice 15-20 during the day in winter, coldest of about 5 at night in winter. It's going to 24 this week! Yeah for winter!
Melbourne would be our closest neighbour.
Check it out.
