As far as books go, there are two series that I would recommend.

If you have Excel 2007 or Powerpoint 2007, I would recommend the "plain & simple" book series published by Microsoft. It is very well laid out and has many color illustrations that make it easy to understand and read through.

If you are studying Microsoft Editions of 2003 or earlier I would recommend the "Step by Step" series. I don't like it quite as well as the first series I mentioned, but from what I've gone through the books they look pretty good.

Both of these book series are good for beginners and can take most users up to a pretty proficient level. If you want to become an expert on the programs, then I recommend getting the Inside & Out series that Microsoft publishes on each of their Microsoft Office products. It goes over almost every little detail of the program, but I don't recommend that series for beginners. Most beginners would be overwhelmed by that much info.
