America is loosing the war on Iraq. The reason to invade Iraq is to control the Oil resources. If US transfers the control to the Iraq politicians before taking control of oil resources it has to forget the 1 trillion $ investment and their soldiers sacrifice on behalf of this.
I could see few have answered America has already won the war.It is not true. You can say they have won only after taking full control of the country and establish themselves in the occupied country .They have done neither of them.
America is loosing the war.

Can we win at this point? by win I mean a stable government that is not authoritarian. Oh man.... such a short question, but it requires such a big answer. If the violence stopped tomorrow then what... well pull out of there, take care of home for little while and try not to get involved with Iran.

Depends what you define as a win. If you mean win the war against Saddam's Republican army..yes US won. If you mean the overall objective which was to control world's oil fields in the name of democracy...yes. If you mean do all of the above and not have any of your men get killed...no.
Chalie..you dumb f..k...you haven't finished this war and you wanna start another one with a country much more powerful than Iraq under saddam??? Besides, the best place to bomb would be your house to get rid of idiots.

First of all, most wars are fought with a known enemy. In Iraq, our troops are trying to find a wolf in sheeps clothing hidden among the sheep. Our troops need to come home now. They are being mercilessly slaughtered, and for what? For Whom? A lot of the people there do not give a crap about USA. It is time for the Iraqi people to control their own destiny!

If stop we can continue to help rebuild the Iraqi government and economy. If we can help rebuild them they will be another non threatening country to US. When the insurgents are eliminated we can continue the strategy. We help rebuild the country we took out because of the result of WWI cause a radicalist like Hitler to use the treaty of versai to rally support for WW ll. But if we help the country after the conflict there to say no bad blood after the battles

The military objectives have been accomplished. In the regard the "war" is over. Maintaining peace in an insurgency is a different animal altogether.
If we learned any lesson from Viet Nam it's that politicians should not be allowed to direct a war from Washington.

Victory: the year 2073, the entire Middle East is a fairly stable semi-democratic, semi-industrialized American Neo-Colony/vacation spot controlled by CIA supported puppet governements. The biggest conflict left will be between the traditional muslims in the area and the generations of sex, drugs, and rock and roll- crazed youth shaking their middle eastern money-makers for traveling American Business men. A Capitalist Paradise all based on Iraq as a statecraft stepping stone. ...Or we stop our oil dependancy, bankrupt the region and by 2073 the Middle East is a smoking crater where the west throws all of its nuclear waste. Either one sounds fine to me.

I don't expect the violence to stop any time soon. I'd just like to see the Iraqis be able to deal with it themselves. The difference between pro- and anti-government military and paramilitary forces is not great or constant, but one would hope they'll get enough of their political s*** together to get some good out of what our troops are buying them.

The war was already won a few years ago. We are now just in the process of stabilizing a country who lost it's entire government. And that doesn't happen overnight

I highly recommend that you read this article..."The War as We Saw It."
It is written by 7 members of the 82nd Airborne Division who are currently stationed in Baghdad and shares their views of the political, social, religious, sectarian and ideological aspects of the war in Iraq.
