First of all CONGRATS are in order. Second send out Save the Date cards immediately. This gives people fair notice to include your wedding celebration into their holiday budget. Also try to look on the bright side many people spend New Years Eve going out and having a good time, eating, drinking and dancing. Why not do it with a group of people. I would also recommend an open bar of some sorts and maybe a big screen TV to watch the ball drop if you think guests will appreciate the fact. I went to a wedding about 5 years ago and I gave the newlyweds $100 dollars it was the cheapest New Years Eve I have ever had. The neat thing was that we also got discounts at a local Hotel and a shuttle so we did not have to drink and drive. Cake and a champagne toast to top it off WILD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great themes for your wedding too.

I would go if I was a close friend of the couple but if I barely knew them most likely I wouldn't go.
Just a note: maybe you should re-think the getting married on New Year's Eve plan. It sounds good to you now but what about after the wedding ceremony? Would you really want to celebrate New Year's Eve and your anniversary on the same day? Maybe you would, I guess it's a preference thing but for me, I would rather pick out a day that isn't already a holiday and get married then, which would make the day special... an extra holiday, if you will! ;) It's up to you, I just thought I would add that.

YES! I have been invited to 2 weddings on New Year's Eve. One huge one for the millennium (2000) and another one in 2006. Both were really fun! Another positive thing ..... if you are getting married in a church, it's still decorated for the season so you don't need many decorations. The one I went to in 2006 had a Christmas tree decorated at the reception with simple snowflake ornaments. You were asked to take an ornament (favor) when you left. I still use that ornament now. Good luck!

Probably not the best choice for that time of year, but lots of people do marry during the Winter holiday season. Even a former Governor of Oregon, John Kitzhaber, had a NYE wedding.
The day I wish people would STOP selecting for weddings? Valentines Day! Not only is it soooo cliched, also if the marriage ended either by divorce or death, that would be one of the saddest days ever when it should be a happy one.

I would definitely go. its something to do on new years eve that doesnt involve being stuck outside in the cold or jam packed somewhere that I cant even move. my husband and I usually do a fancy dinner on new years eve anyways...usually cost us around $150 so instead of putting that towards dinner and I put it towards going to a wedding where you get dinner and dancing anyways. I would just be sure to send out save the date cards for the wedding well in advance so that people can know not to make other plans.

My boyfriend got married on New Year's Eve and it ended very badly. Now New Year's Eve is just a memory and it sucks for us because every year for at least part of the night he remembers their wedding.

If I had enough notice I would. New Years Eve plans are always hard to decide on and a wedding would be a fun and festive way to celebrate.

I generally don't care for events being planned on holidays. I find it innconvenient but not the end of the world. It depends how close a friend it was and how far away. I'd need a lot of notice and you might have more than average last minute cancellations. But if that's what you really want, go for it.

I would definitely go. You may have some people who can't go due to being out of town or visiting family, but New Year weddings are pretty popular so I bet you will have a good crowd!
Good luck!
