If you have extended wear lenses, try taking them out before you go to bed for a few days and see if there's a difference.
Make sure your lenses are squeaky clean before you put them in too.
If your lenses don't feel uncomfortable when your eyes are red, the redness may not be due to the lenses. If you just started wearing contacts, you might need to adjust your break-in schedule. Meaning, leave them out for longer periods of time and slow down trying to wear them longer.
On most mornings, I wake up with red eyes and I just put Visine in them for the redness. It won't hurt to visit your eye doctor for his or her professional opinion.

I would think not because it means your eyes are very dry from wearing contacts too much or you have allergys that should be checked out.

I woke up this am with really tired eyes, but a couple of hours later, put them on in. If they are not comfortable to you, then remove them - wear your glasses and let your eyes rest

if it's not uncomfortable you can. if you're sure your eye isn't scratched or no infection, go ahead. glasses will give you eyes a rest. think of your eyes like a breathing organ. they do need to breathe too. never take chances with your eyes.

red eyes indicate that there is already irritation, and contact lenses can add to that causing damage that may be permanent, no, do not wear them when your eyes are already irritated.

I think you should were contacts only if you can't see properly and you don't want to wear glasses.
Hope that helps.
