I know a lot of answerers are giving the "sweetest" answers, and they are all good.
But, seriously, we really didn't eat much at the dinner, and I don't remember having anything at the late lunch. When we got to the suite I think it was around midnight, and we were tired of course, but you know we were both really, really hungry. It just would have been really nice to even have had a sandwich or something, truly. I know it may not seem romantic, but you've just gone through a stressful - albeit happy and wonderful - day - and a refueling of some sort before getting some exercise/sleep would be really nice.
So whether it's pizza, a Big Mac, or cheese and crackers - it is a nice idea to have something waiting for the couple - it's very thoughtful. We had champagne and roses waiting for us, but no food.

I agree with Lydia, strawberries and whipped cream are nice, but from what I've heard from most of my married friends, after the wedding, when you finally get back to your room to relax, you are going to want something more substantial than a strawberry.

I have a mental list of the fast food places next to where my groom and I are staying that night (McDonald's, Pizza Inn, Subway, Sonic, Pizza Hut, KFC, and Taco Bell), so as the party is winding down, my plan is to have someone who's not too tired already (my dad, cousin, or a groomsman or bridesmaid) make a quick trip to grab me and my sweetie some real food so we can then have enough *ahem* energy for the rest of the night.

Chocolate covered straweberries...cheese and crackers...things like that are great. But let me tell you...most of the time the bride and groom have been soooo busy they didn't even get a chance to enjoy a good meal. If I were you, I would have maybe a nice dinner ordered in, or maybe just really good sandwiches placed in their rooms. I always hear how HUNGRY everyone is! I know that friends of mine who recently got married drove through a fast food place on their way to the hotel they were so hungry.

Just a thought!

As a caterer we always put together a basket of goodies, things that hold well like pasta salad, some wedding cake, bottles of water. Fruit, cheese and crackers. Wine or sparkling cider some forks, plates and napkins. Plus candles, matches and small gifts that friends or family might want to include. Wrap it all up with some flowers or elements of the wedding decor tule etc. Brides and grooms often don't getenough to eat or drink their day of and we've gotten lots of thank yous for this little extra.

All good answers...but really, it should be what you like. Make a list with your fiance and go with it. Some "different" ideas:

-Favorite candies and chocolates.
-Cheese and crackers.
-Herbal teas (at this point you likely don't need any more booze).
-"Comfort" foods like grilled cheese sandwiches, tomato soup, mashed potatoes.
-Some couples may want organic fruit, veggie sticks and all natural peanut butter. Others may want mini-hamburgers or McDonald's.
-Sushi
-Ice cream, whipped topping, sundaes.
-Shakes and meal replacement bars. You'll need the energy, trust me. ;) And you may not have a lot of time if you have to get up early for your honeymoon.

Peanut butter, pickle and banana sandwiches.

Actually it depends on the bride and groom. I'd have popcorn and trail mix. Another bride and groom might like chocolate covered cherries dipped in caviar.

Champagne with chocolate covered strawberries. Small finger foods served on a silver tray...or bruchette, piggies in a blanket, swiss cheese wrapped with Genoa Salami, cut up meat and veggie wraps...the list can go on and on. Enjoy.

for between ceremony and reception? then cheese and crackers fruit or non messy chips - like pretzels or something. you dont want to get messy, but you want to give them the opportunity to get some food (im sure they spent a lot of money on the wedding for great food for everyone) but you are running around/drinking and its a little difficult to get the proper amount of calories on that day!
