Got yourself a nice rifle.

Check www.midwayusa.com

They have a huge selection of scopes for pretty decent prices.

Your .308 is capable of some real accuracy at some pretty good ranges.

A good all around scope is a Variable power such as:

BSA Huntsman, 3 x 9 power 44mm lens for about $70.00
or
Burris Fullfield 2, 3 x 9 power 40mm lens for about $207.00
or you can step up the power a bit with:
BSA Contender, 3 x 12 power, 40mm lens for about $91.00.
or
Burris Fullfield 2, 4.5 x 14 power, 42mm lens for about $344.00.

You can spend double the money on other scopes, but these should work quite well. The Burris does have better glass so images are clearer, they do seem to pick up targets better in low light situations.

Have fun picking a scope. . .

I have had good luck with the Bushnel Banner Series if money is a consideration. Optics are clear and they have a quick focus eye piece. Point of impact doens't seem to change with different power which can be a problem with inexpensive scopes. A wise man spends more on his scope than his rifle but some of us can't afford that. The only drawback I have seen with the cheaper scopes is the adjustments can be far different than marked. (1/4 inch/click/100yds....probably not ! )For general hunting and target shooting it's not a big deal. If you have to have precise adjustments for very long shooting, etc a la sniping spend as much money as you can for the best available. 3X9 power is plenty for "general" work
and 3X can be too much if you do alot of close/woods hunting, etc. One of mine tackled a rock last year while Elk hunting and was dinged pretty badly. it was knocked off zero, had to sight it in and make a few inches adjustment @100 yds. and it's still doing well. I bought another one for a backup for this year but ended up putting it on an 06 with accu-trigger. Old one is still fine.

The scope you want for hunting and the one you want for long-range shooting (depending on your definition of long range) are probably going to be different. Depending on the conditions you're hunting in and what game you're after, you don't need much magnification, and too much can be a detriment. As little as a fixed 2.5x or a 1.5-6x variable may be best for hunting, but you'll want more for long-range paper-punching. And don't go cheap. The mid-range prices (about $300) is what you'll be looking for, to avoid disappointment. I happen to prefer Leupolds, but Burris, Nikon and others make fine optics in that range.

BSA scopes SUCK!!! Just pick one up, look through it, then pick up a Burris, Bushnell, or Nikon of the same price and you'll see the difference for yourself.

The answer all depends on how much you want to spend. Leopold's are nice, but their name costs more than their scopes. I agree w/what someone earlier said, get a 4x12x40. I'd stick with Bushnell, Burris, or Nikon.

Happy hunting!!

Purchase a variable that adjusts from four(4*) power to twelve(12*) power or higher, but not less than (12*) power*...You have a great Rifle and caliber in 308*...
