... is much the same as being a fan of something like, say, Star Trek. Imean, they go on the same way, quote them and give episode names and numbers, can't enter any conversation without mentioning it. Church must be to christians like having a Sci-fi convention every week!
Discuss.

Robert C - Christopher Pike did!
Him being in it instead of shatner would have been (sorry christians!) hellish.

Being a girl that believes in A higher being (What most call God) but someone who disagrees with religion and rejects it I find this hilarious and also think if God himself read it would also find it funny because it's so true!
And lets face it those of you saying "Ah but star trek didn't die for you or star trek wont save your soul"
Well you only think that because a book written many years ago by men who had nothing to do with it wrote it and (as is your right) you have chosen to believe them!
What if in a million years people have forgotten the bible and come across some ancient scriptures entitled Star Trek and believe that Lieutenant Yar died to save their souls and a new religion is born!!??? Eh! Think about it, it could happen!!! hehehe

Perhaps a non-theist would see it in that way. However, as a religious person, the teachings of my faith call upon me to treat others with loving kindness, and to actively practice charity. After a Star Trek convention, people just go home. But after church, our work has truly begun. We're sent out into the world to do good toward others, feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, restore dignity to the oppressed, tend to the sick, and more. So the difference is what happens after the convention (or the church service) over.

I'd say so
variants of Xianity same as variants of Star Trek type shows
all hinging upon faith in validity and make believe
having people say so makes it seem truer

Totally. It is the opiate of the masses. Some people choose Christianity or Star Trek. I choose real opiates.

omg, then they say we are the ignorant ones. it is to our beliefs that the Bible, God, and Jesus are all authentic, so how can that be compared to a fictional movie or series? IT'S NOT THE SAME. And not all Christians mention passages of the Bible or whatever constantly. Just because you may think what we believe in is a fairy tale, doesnt make it so!

That seems reasonable. Although the christians will say you are mocking them I think you're only pointing out an obvious parallel.

2 Peter 1:16. For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

I like Star Trek too. *smile* But it does not have the power to transform one's life, and eternity, as Jesus does.
