There is a number of religious people on here that quote their Bible for every answer instead of taking their knowledge of their religion and book and coming up with their own answer. Is it that hard to think for themselves, or do they simply not understand how to speak their own thoughts without being led?

I mean, it's fine to quote, but a whole answer in quotes looks like you have no mind of your own. How about placing a quote and then explaining how it applies? It's like parrots- they recite what they're taught, but they don't know what it means enough to discuss it.

Anyone else think it's odd that people just quote other's words instead of finding their own? Does anyone have a reason why? I know this isn't all or even most of the religious people on here, just a select few, but I just find it strange. Ideas?

Um...I'm a writer, I know what a quote is. But when you write nothing and simply copy and paste Bible passages instead, doesn't that defy the purpose of a quote? You can't answer a questions with a passage, but you can answer with your own words and support it with a passage. Just makes sense.

Spirit-- I never said quotes are bad, I use them too. I just find it odd when a person repeatedly quotes the same passage, and doesn't try to explain in their own words. All you see for a post is a passage that doesn't make sense as an answer or on its own. It's like these people are reciting, instead of truly thinking of an answer for themselves.

Most people on here seem to respond before they even read the entire question.

I notice that most people on here seem to give nonsensical answers, regardless of their beliefs (or lack thereof).

For some issues the position of those of The True Christian Faith is as stated in The Bible. There is little to no room for modifying the words to fit the situation... in those cases I too will cite Bible referance... For myself, knowing that most who "question" Christians on YA have no interest in a "Christian" answer, which they know full well would most likely require referance to The Bible, I try not to "go to The Bible" on YA... I often offer email contact for more detailed responces. If the seeker is open to it I will then "go to The Bible"... but I try to keep it to a min. as The Bible of The True Christian Faith is not even intended for those not open to The leading of God.

Some of the explanations are so illogical that the person using them couldn't possible conceive them on his own w/o using the propaganda quotes. I'm talking about quotes that are "not" from the bible.

I'm beginning to believe the highest calling of Christians is to be an expert in rationalizations and the art of the segue. As you sort of said, a quote is to buttress a thought or opinion not a stand alone answer..

I have no problem with it as long as it answers the question. Most quotes I see, however, do not even touch on the question.

quoting is a form of supporting an answer, it is a practice taught in modern english writing, it is what gives weight to an answer and it is the correct way of answering a carefully thought out response
so no, it's not odd or strange

It just shows how much of sheep they are they just toss out passages and expect it to answer the question. You don't really expect them to have a rational thought on their own do you?
