think of what you would need if they called in the middle of the night with a child.... a bed or pack n play depending on the childs age (if its an infant the will give you a voucher to purchase a crib but it may take a few days) Childs toothbrush and childs paste, baby shampoo and body wash, a few toys (maybe a stuffed animal to make the child feel better, they usually come with nothing or very little) you will get a voucher to get the child clothing but that too make take a couple days. Good luck

You're to be commended for taking in one of these little ones until their family situation has settled. But as you pointed out, you don't know if you have a boy or a girl or their age. You really can't buy anything yet. You might need a bed, you might need a crib. You might need clothes 4x, you might need newborn.

Wait until the foster department tells you about your child before you go buying a bunch of stuff, though bless your soul for wanting to.

Best wishes!

have you been through the classes and done the homestudy? Did they give you any idea of what they would be recommending? When i was looking to do it they basically told me that if it was me they would approve but they had worries about my husband at the time. So they were pretty open about stuff like that. I was already setup for one child so they would know how serious i was about fostering and possibly adopting. Did they mention anything to you about not having stuff ready for a child during your home study?

I was told that you really don't get the ages for which you ask. If I thought you did, I would consider taking in foster kids. I have been told that often you get sullen teenagers who are not very trustworthy, or even aggressive kids. I haven't done this myself and would really like to know facts from people who have done it. Maybe a good question for this site.
