Most often, those who threaten suicide have no intention of carrying it through. It is, however, a control method used by many. Your friend needs to end this relationship and get this guy out of her life pronto. It is an extrememly unhealthy relationship, regardless of his intentions. Is there a possibility of moving the sailboat to another dock while he is off the boat? Sadly, it may require the help of the police...however that may also irritate him further. Tell her to be very careful, by all means. Good luck!

Call the police, enforce a restraining order, and tell him to get his life sorted out.
No offence to the males, but in many relationship cases where the woman has told the man it is over, they become total nut cases. I am not saying this goes for all men, I'm saying that it happens.
He can threaten all he wants, she should ignore it. The man is obviously a coward and that is why he is afraid to let her be, and move on with his life. It is alright to try and win them back, but this isn't winning her back, this is cowardice.
Your friend must call the police. You must also help her. She must also get a restraining order. If he is one of the head cases that you hear about, most likely he wont let her be.

a baseball bat may do the trick. Or get him really drunk and let him have an "accident" she is on a boat after all.
But seriously she has to just tell him to leave if he refuses and keeps saying all that get the police involved then. They may take him to the crazy hospital. Either way it's her property and if she does not want him there then he is trespassing.

1) construct a catapult. 2) lure him into the movable end 3) fire him out of the boat 4) as he is airborne, phone the local police to supply them with the approximate coordinates of his landing 5) sit back and let the boys in blue do their job
seriously, quickly call a suicide hotline and/or the police. someone with authority needs to intervene immediatley to prevent anyone from becomin injured intentionally or unintentionally

Sounds scary. Could turn nasty. Maybe she should get some guy friends for support and protection and tell him to get out or she'll call the police. He won't kill himself over it.

Have her call the police and tell them what you've told us about their relationship ending and that the man is threatening to kill himself, they will take it from there.
He'll probably be detained and questioned, possibly even placed in a mental hold till he can be evaluated.

Throw the guy overboard and let him swim back to shore. Why waste your energy on a bum. Most divorcee latch on to the first man they meet, more so if they have kids, sad but true. I think loneliness settles in and they want someone to support them or in bed right away.

she can put his stuff on the dock and change the locks or have him physically removed by the police. those threats are an attempt at making her feel guilty.
