Wages are totally driven by supply and demand. 20 million illegal aliens creates the supply side, thereby driving down costs.
(Employers should be harshly fined and punished for using them by the way, but that isn't what you asked.)
If they weren't here, the price would go up. And employers would have to pay it, they'd have no choice.
But you are absolutely correct that given the choice between 2 workers whose skills are equal and who will accept the same salary, then yes, employers will choose english speaking over non-english speaking.

The American business has made many mistakes and immigration is one of them. Hiring illegals for less wage is not right and will not solve any problems. Amnesty will not help. When it comes down to paying minimum wage, any smart business will hire the person who can perform the job the best. Speaking English could be part of that job.

The American's are unwilling to do the jobs is a talking point that businesses have been using for years. The issue is why aren't corporations, some of which are making record profits, willing to pay a living wage. Henry Ford had it right, if you want someone to buy a car, you have to give them a job that will allow them to afford a car. America is getting further and further away from this basic economic fact and the house of cards corporations have been building since they days of Reagan is about to come crashing down.

I think a lot of it is the company's, there trying to make the most money for themselves, so there looking to save as many dollars as possible. Like you said if someone was jobless and needed to feed a family I don't think it makes a difference what job it is. It's beyond minimum wage because most of them work off the books, so we don't know how much an hour they make plus there not paying taxes. Before we had immigrants more so illegals who picked the fruit? Who built the houses?

Exactly. They expect consumers to live by the laws of supply and demand. However, if the corporations don't like the rules, they just go around them. There is most certainly a supply of Americans willing to do those jobs, if the wages are reasonable for our economy. You don't go tapping into a near third world economy for labor. However, you can't blame the corporations in full, as the government chooses to turn the other way when the lobbying dollars roll in.
What's just as bad is the offshoring to India and China and the abuse of the work visa program. I have several friends who are out of jobs in the IT industry I work in. My own company has offshored thousands of jobs to India. On top of that, two thirds of the people I work with are on work visas from India and China. Almost all the executives are anglo males. I consider myself very fortunate to still be on board, but don't stake my future on that being the case indefinitely. There was a position openly posted for Global Services Coordinator a few months ago, whose primary responsibility was to offshore another 10,000 jobs by next year. (This includes accounting jobs, by the way.)

it's a con b/n the gvt and businesses. you can't legally move here unless you have a job lined up but employers can't hire you unless you're working for a wage no one else is willing to work for, so they just lower the wages

There are many jobs that Americans will not do. Just open a local newspaper and look at the job ads. The job market does not have enough workers. We absolutely need immigrant workers to fill them. Americans have proven they will not pick fruit, mop floors, cook, etc. Our economy is dependent upon these workers. Without them, we would slip into a serious recession.

It's not that Americans are unwilling to do these jobs it's that we don't have to, we can better ones.
It's not that employers won't pay minimum wage for these jobs it's that they don't have to.
