THAT A BREACH OF BATHROOM ETIQUETTE. YOU SHOULD GIVE A COURTESY FLUSH, AND THEN SPRAY THE AIR FRESHENER.

Some people (including me) have allergies/sensitivities to some of the ingredients in air fresheners.
It may not be a matter of etiquette but a matter of avoiding an asthma attack.
That said, I do try to at least leave the facility in a condition where it will air out.

I really think that if there is air freshner available then it should be used....most people dont have common courtesy anymore though. At the very least they could turn on a fan in the bathroom.

I was eating when I read your question and couldn't continue. lol
Agreed, provided the air freshener is provided in the bathroom.
But
I would like to see you concerned about the things of more importance around you.

Yes, I think it's very rude especially when there is a can of air freshener right there!

I don't like the air freshener smell. In my opinion it smells worse than someone's you-know-what.

What should you do if there is no air freshener and you have a crap on deck so bad that you can't hold it?

A courtesy spritz is generally appreciated. But please, don't overdo it - just enough to take the edge off is fine, I don't like walking into a Citrus/Potpourri/Lilac/Meadow cloud either.
