I'd say it's more important to stress the importance of an open mind, morals, and reason.

Introducing a child to religion is fine, as long as he or she is not pressured into certain beliefs. I suggest explaining multiple religions, perhaps explaining the role of religion in some people's lives and that no one set of beliefs is better than another. Giving your viewpoint is fine. But again, allowing the child freedom is best.

it depends on two main factors in my opinion: 1) what country you live in 2) what the child aims to be For example, if you live in countries in Middle East, then you may be brainwashed to fight the Western power or become a terrorist. But if you are say from US, then you are very unlikely to become a religious extremist that starts terrorizing the world. Also, you mention about how many religious kids are scientifically illiterate. Maybe so. But so what if a kid doesn't know science? If that kid never wants to be a scientist, what's the harm in that? If that kid instead becomes motivated by his religion to do a lot of volunteer and community service, isn't that better than say party at a pub or get laid at weekend parties?

Yes. Since they'll inevitably have it enter their lives whether you like it or not. The best route would be to explain generally, saying these are the different religions and their beliefs.
I'd make sure not to state that they're right or wrong. Make it clear it's a personal choice and belief.

It's a sad fact that there are people and their children out there who will judge or "testify" to your child because of your / their beliefs. Informing them in advance and preparing them properly will keep this from being a traumatic experience for them.

No. Humans don't need to be spiritual. I think a kid should be allowed to choose for themselves if they want to be spiritual or not, plenty of people aren't spiritual and they're doing just fine.

However, introducing them to morals seems a lot more important. Don't kill, lie, cheat, and do be open-minded, kind and all, etc. You don't need religion to know right from wrong, just good upbringing.

Peace :)

oh yes! That's my answer. These kids need to be taught by a Pastor who is responsible for his flock. Parents aren't doing it anymore. My mother didn't teach me nothing about sex...she avoided it like the plaque...I have 3 children and numerous pregnancies. I learned through biblical study and instruction that what I was doing was soooo wrong and that God would in no way bless my mess! When you walk away from religion no matter how you feel about it, you get choas! We in the US are trying so hard to remove God from everything but look at the mess that it has created? We have so much corruption on every level and in every sector that it's not funny...I would hate to see Jesus return right now and how angry he would be...

No. I would have discussed religion with my children, but they never asked, and to the best of my knowledge they have never been inside a religious structure of any kind. They are good and successful citizens, with whom I am well pleased.

Most definitely! All you can do is have an open mind, share your experiences, let them know everyone has a choice, there are many religions out there, but there is only one God. Living a spiritual life, learning what that means, is more important than trying to find what religion works, that's just my opinion.

I think it is very important. I was raised Lutheran and was baptized and confirmed. Though I am no longer Lutheran I am glad that I was raised with the knowledge of God. I am currently searching for what I nickname "my home church." I like what my Dad told me when I broke the news to him," I don't care what religion you are, just be something." God is many things to many people, but at least the child will have the knowledge of God.

Children should be taught to be free thinkers about religion, because it is religion that is destroying our society today by wrongful interpretations within religion.
