If someone is trying to sell you a special kind of cable TV amplifier and billing it as an "HD amplifier", they're probably trying to rip you off (or make you think you are getting some kind of hopped up amplifier because it's an "HD amplifier").

There is nothing about an HD signal that requires any special kind of RF (cable TV) amplifier. The HD signals are modulated into the RF signal that is distributed over the cable. It's the electronics on either end that make it HD or not.

finish it so u can connect at a central location only the outlets u want active
No sense in splitting a signal to unused ports.

with cable u should be able to get a 4 way split with no amp.

It won't improve anything unless you're running over 5 lines to 5 TV sets.....

You may WANT to consider setting up your Cabling so the MAIN lncoming line can be connected to an RF DISTRIBUTION AMP.....then that connects up 5 to 12 different rooms if you have that many TVs around your home....

That's the only Type of amplifier that would benefit you.....

a drop amp?
if you have a lot of splits
yes
but you need to ask yourself how many splits you have
every split results in about 5db of signal loss
