I recently purchased Windows XP (OS) at a steep $299.99 (08/01/07) but my laptop stopped working so I'm unable to use it. Although I understand their (Best Buy) return policy on software, since I can't use it I should be able to return it! Besides, when I get another laptop (most likely at Best Buy) it will come with an Operating System already... I could certainly use the money for the new computer!

They state in their policy that they cannot accept the return of used software, same goes for Cd's, DVDs etc. If it is opened, they will not accept it. You could try to sell it, although even though you paid $299.99 for it, that is most likely not what you will get for it. Might be worth a try. Put an ad in the local paper, or you could ask some local businesses if they will let you post a flyer, or try eBay.

You can't return it, because for all they know, you could have made thousands of copies of the disc, and sold them. It would be nice if stores would just trust you, but it's the world we live in unfortunately.

This is where eBay comes in handy...
