I think after death we live on in a spiritual level, based on how we lived our life on earth. If we lived a life of giving of ourself to others, helping and loving, our spiritual life will be beautiful. If we were self centered and selfish our spiritual life will be not so pleasant.

But we live on forever, always learning and improving our soul.

I also am terrified about my own mortality. I do not believe there is anything after death. I believe when you die, it's kind of like when you sleep, except without any dreams. When you wake up in the morning, you really don't remember "sleep". Maybe you remember some dream you had, but, I guess death would be more like the times you have no dreams when sleeping.

Of course, I would like to believe there is something. I really do wish I could believe, perhaps if I had this belief, even if it turned out to be wrong, perhaps simply having this belief would take my own fear of death go away.

As far as what happens after death. Your body eventually decomposes / is eaten by various bugs and bacteria, and that is that. Nothing after death. It's depressing, which is why I try to avoid thinking about it, I try to live for today, because anything can happen tomorrow.

I am very glad to hear you are going to the hospital tomorrow... There is no life after death like the life you can live tomorrow... No day will be as hard as today as long as you take the step towards recovery... Now is going to be the time to cherish... Now life will begin... You can do great things and will cherish them even more when it is all said and done... Since you are checking yourself in it won't be too bad... They may have you on what is called Q15 for the first day or so which means they will check on you every 15 minutes to ensure your safety... You will be able to gain more privileges as you show progress, and you will be required to see out patient treatment once you leave... Just remember that no one there is looking at you poorly or trying to be mean... They are there to help you... They want to see you get better and as long as you are willing to put in the effort it will be well worth the time... Please contact me via email as I would like to know how you are doing and if there are any questions of what things may be like in the hospital... I spent over a week in a behavioral facility after my attempt last year... I am happy today and very glad I did not succeed... I cherish every day now... even the ones that are okay... And one day you will too!

I once suffered from suicidal depression and tried it-failed luckily. No one knows what is in store for all of us when we die. Those with religion have explanations of heaven and hell, those who are secular may believe there is nothing, just eternal nothingness, like before you were born. In any case suicide is not the answer; it may not be like you imagine or anyone imagines. Life is a great gift and life is all you have now and it will get better I can assure you. Depression is the most painful of emotions I think but it can be overcome.

Good luck in hospital, good health, peace and love!

How could anyone know????People can tell you what they think...and some people have had near death experiences...but no one really knows. So DON'T DO IT. You can get through this. Try to calm yourself down about going to the hospital. You didn't say what kind of hospital or what for...but drs. are usually pretty good. Tell them you're scared...maybe they'll give you something to calm your nerves.Things are not always what they seem...you've probably exaggerated things in your mind by thinking about it so much. Try to think of other things...good things. Good Luck !!
