I think you would be very satisfied with the canon unless you're looking for a sexy ultracompact camera. I don't know too much about the other brands except that fuji tends to do well with noise reduction and that a lot of people like sony's looks and easy use.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras and learn as much as they can from the internet.
Go to the store and hold them and try them to see what they feel like and how they take pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.

the samsung s630 is a great 6 mp digital it takes great pics and a little video its only 100 dollars at wall-mart,pluss tax of course

Casio Z75 or Z1050 is a great choice, nice and thin,
7.1-10.2MP, lightweight, shoots photos and video with sound. Easy to use controls and a 2.5" screen to view.
