claiming to be Jesus Christ, but Gordon B. Hinkley claimed that he wasn't Jesus, who would you believe, and why?

Personally, I don't think Gordon B. Hinkley would have any clue or not whether he was the real Jesus. I think it's sad that mormons rely on their prophet so much for judgement instead of relying on themselves a little more.

cookie777, are you actually suggesting that Gordie B and all his little helpers have actually personally seen Jesus? That's hilarious, if that's what you're implying. Gordie even told Larry king that it was more of a spiritual thing than a physical thing.

Believing that Jesus would actually appear on CNN to announce His coming to the world is what is crazy. No, I would not believe it- period because there is no way that Jesus would ever go on CNN. (the View maybe...no jk) So I don't even think Gordon B. Hinkley would even have to say it was or wasn't- i think most of us know that it would be crazy! and that it would not be Him.

Is it not amazing when you ask for a certain faith, albeit, a Christian sect to answer, that there will be others not of that faith that has to put their two cents in (I'm allowing for inflation). You asked Latter Day Saints to answer this question and yet you should already know the answer. The answer is that I would believe the Prophet Gordon B. Hinkley. I believe he is a man of God and has the authority to hold all the keys to the priesthood. That includes discernment of a person claiming to be the Christ. It would also be very obvious that this person would not be Jesus since he did not come as he promised he would.

As for the question of believing a different Jesus than the other Christian sects, we believe Christ is the Son of God who we and even Christ referred to as Heavenly Father. They are two separate entities that Stephen, a prophet mentioned in the Book of Acts as seeing in a vision. He was the first Christian martyr as he was taken out by the Sanhedrin and stoned to death. We believe that Jesus is the prophesied Savior and Redeemer and bled in Gethsemane, suffered humiliation at the hand of the priests in the temple and died a sinless death on the cross. Then he defeated death by being resurrected and in turn would allow all that have passed to defeat death and also be resurrected as it also states in 1st Corinthian 15.

There will be many signs before the Lord comes for a second time, And that'll be before the 2nd coming. Here is a sign
Matt 26: 64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

So until I see Christ sitting on the right hand of power on a cloud and walking into the CNN building, which I'm sure many people would have that recorded on their phones, i'd have to believe in the Prophet, since I do sustain him as a Prophet, Seer, and Revelator. Why would Christ go to CNN anyway?

Well, number one, I would pray about whatever the prophet said, whether or not he said it was Christ or wasn't. I would want affirmation.
Also, I do believe the prophets and even some of the apostles have personally seen Jesus Christ so I am pretty sure they would know firsthand.

This isn't a hypothetical question.
It's already happened:

He says he is the unifier, he is the Christ, God, and the anti-Christ. Quoted as saying that he is "Jesus Christ in the flesh".

I didn't see any church leaders rushing to embrace him, and I can only imagine that Pres. Hinckley probably took a nap upon hearing that news.
Of course, since he's a few years short of 100, he probably naps a lot between writing and broadcasting.

I would not believe the man, because Jesus Christ will not appear on CNN. It has nothing to do with Gordon B. Hinckley or not. We have been told by other prophets how He will come, and that is not it.

I am reminded of a joke. A Cardinal came to the Pope with an important message.

"Your Holiness, I have some good news and some bad news. Which would you like first?"

The Pope thought for a moment and then said, "Give me the good news first."

"Father, we just received a call. Jesus Christ has come to earth again!"

"That is wonderful, my son. After that good news, what could possibly be bad?"

"Father, the call came from Salt Lake City, Utah."

President Hinckley would be joined by the rest of the Apostles in confirming whether it was Jesus Christ or not. Every single one of them has had a unique witness of Christ, so 13 to 15 witnesses would help me decide. I think Del Parson's portrait is still very close, since there's a reason it's being used as the official portrait of the Church. Thanks for asking.

Why do have such jabs for mormons? You know that the church is true so stop fighting it. You know that a majority of the mormons will follow the prophet so why do you asks these types of questions. Stop trying to put a front up toward mormons on R&S. You were once mormon and so you know. Change your ways now or one day the Lord will have his vengance. Do you really enjoy living in sorrow because of your disbelief?
