I too am a confessional Lutheran like Portland. (Lutheran Church Canada). Therefore I must agree; If Father Martin were alive to day, he would be wild! (much more than usual).
Luther would also be wild (as he always was) when ever Scripture is quoted, used , and/or interpreted out of context.
I can see how one could use the text of this verse as an example of wrong conduct in the light of the Gospel, but taken in context Romans 10:2 has absolutely nothing to do with homosexuality. Read verse 1. Chapter 10 is referring to the Jews in Israel remaining steadfast in their old testament belief. What St. Paul has written here concerns the Jews not accepting the Gospel. In the New King James Version, as one reads Chapter 10 one can sense Paul's frustration, disappointment, anger, and I believe even sadness about their misguided Zeal.
Mind you this is how we confessional Lutherans and our Catholic, Orthodox, and Conservative evangelical brothers feel regarding the ELCA. Likewise with it's counterpart here in Canada (ECLC) and the Anglican Communion (Episcopal in US) that they are now in fellowship with. This is where most of these ideas regarding Homosexuality originated (they already have openly homosexual Bishops).
Unfortunately we Confessional lutherans (LCMS, LCC, WELS, SELK, ELCE, etc.) get painted with the same brush.
It is a shame that the ELCA has retained the term Lutheran in its name, because they have removed any semblance of Lutheran doctrine from their Church. The same goes for the Anglicans, apart from a few Conservative Congregations that seem to be gradually converting to Roman Catholicism, they have walked away from their Lutheran roots (Under Elizabeth I), and their Catholic heritage, that many of the middle and high Church Anglicans espoused.
This issue is only the latest of many deviations from Scripture.
35 or 40 years ago LCC (LCMS) was for the most part in fellowship with with the ELCA, and even shared a Seminary in Saskatoon SK. with them. When the ELCA decided to defy Scripture and ordain women. Before long, belief in the Old Testament became optional, then it was the real presence in the sacrament of Holy Communion, along with that, the Lutheran Confessions became mere historical documents. Here in Canada their synod has recently elected a woman as their head Bishop.
In their so called Lutheran, Christian College in the USA , St. Olaf's, they have just hired a Hindu as "Head of Religious Studies". I could go on and on and on......
Mark.

It does indeed as does 2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. And Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves:
The Bible condemns Homosexuality and yet these man made groups endorse it in the name of gaining members. They shall be judged in the end along with the perverts they condone.

Yes, but zeal alone is insufficient. Without accurate knowledge, misdirected zeal made the Jews reject the prophets and even Christ. (Romans 10:2) Can all religions be the true faith when individuals associated with them fail to apply God’s principles? Matthew 7:21-23.
The Bible clearly condemns sexual misconduct like homosexuality. (1 Cor. 6:9) So it does not matter if the Lutherans or any other religion have a zeal for God. If they are not doing things God's way, that zeal will not save them.

These kind of things show us which religions are false and they should also make people get out of Babylon the Great.
"Get out of her, my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive part of her plagues. For her sins have massed together clear up to heaven, and God has called her acts of injustice to mind." -- Revelation 18:4,5
Those who practice homosexuality and who agree with it don't have God's approval.
"Even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full recompense, which was due for their error." -- Romans 1:27
"Although these know full well the righteous decree of God, that those practicing such things are deserving of death, they not only keep on doing them but also consent with those practicing them. " -- Romans 1:32

It really isn't up to anyone else to decide who is or who is not "ordained" but God, and evidently, nobody asked for His vote.
There is no such thing as "gay clergy" in God's church.
(This is one more reason why, although I do attend church services, I refuse to become a member of ANY denomination.)

How sad...Fortunately, I belong to the Missouri synod...if they ever practice such blatant disregard for scripture's teaching on this subject, I will leave faster than anything. I have seen the downfall of the ELCA for quite sometime now. Luther, if alive would immediately leave!

Personally, I see nothing in that verse that says "Let not two men in love with one another be together".But then I could care less because I see the Bible as a very long and very boring piece of fiction.I think it should be up to the churches to decide how to interpret the Bible.And if they decide to be loving and accepting of others then that is great.Isn't that what Christianity is all about?Love and acceptance?I could be wrong.But I don't really care.

1 Timothy 4:1-11
1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
4For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
6If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
7But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
8For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
9This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
10For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
11These things command and teach.
