The good news is that the scaremongers are entertaining themselves with scaring the daylights out of people with extreme doom day scenarios,
Movies such as The Day After Tomorrow are over hyped horror flicks that have only the loosest of connection with reality.
The bad news is that for us to have any chance of stopping Global Warming we would need to reduce world wide carbon dioxide emissions to less than one tenth of what they are today.
We would have to shut down all of the world's economies to have any chance of that happening.
Right now it appears that Global Warming is inevitable and we cannot stop it because we cannot get the cuts in carbon dioxide emissions that we need.
We must start planning now how we will mitigate the effects of Global Warming and how we will live with Global Warming.
One thing that we can do that will at least slow it down is to ban the use of coal to generate electricity.
Over half of the elelectricity in the United States is generated by the use of coal.
Coal fired electric power plants are the single largest source of carbon dioxide emissions in the United States, followed closely by automobile emissions of carbon dioxide.
If we can just eliminate that source that will at least slow global warming down a bit and give us more time to mitigate the effects of Global Warming and plan how we will deal with Global Warming.

yea, there is good reason to be. It's like this, Vehicles emit toxic air emissions among paper plants and other factories etc. They depleat the ozone layer which shields the earth from the sun. Even some household products, chemicals, and paints contain elements that deplete the ozone layer. There is already a huge chunk missing. I've seen pictures somewhere. There may be a scientific way to calculate the amount of time but I would doubt it's acurate. Reason is that there are so many vehicles and companies contributing to global warming. The summers where I live are getting hotter every year no joke. But no worries friend, just get saved and you'll be prepared for whatever is going to happen.

Flooding is something that happens naturally with or without global warming. However if you want to decrease your chance of getting flooded from a higher sea level do not live near the coasts. Inland flooding is caused by too much rain for a period of time, unfortunately you cannot avoid that unless you live on top of a mountain.

The previous answerers who imply Global Warming is a natural phenomenom would be better placed explaining how astrology works or how to **** farm animals.
Most likely, in the next 5-15 years crops will begin to fail regularly in parts of the developing world where the local population is most dependant on agriculture as an income source. They will migrate to neighbouring nations and these mass refugee flows will severely destabilize nations who export key commodities to the developed world.

global warming is a phrase used by socialist and liberal morons to scare people into giving an oppressive govt. even more power over your life by regulating away your freedoms. there is no hard science that proves that global warming even exists! the experts only agree that they dont have enough information to make an informed guess about the climate of the earth!
20 years ago Time magazines cover proclaimed that global COOLING would ruin the earth within 50 years! they of course were wrong. the warmest years on record were in the 1930's!!!! so has the earth cooled since then?? no. weather patterns are cyclic and unpredictable. global warming, like global cooling are myths used by leftist morons to raise your gasoline taxes (among other taxes) and hold on to their political power.

It already has and I am no scaremonger!
The greatest river the used to run through Austria is dry, the summer showers that are a sign of global warming cause more floods year after year, and in some countries drought has been lingering for six to eight years.

If you're expecting something dramatic, don't. The earth goes through cooling and heating cycles all of the time. They don't last for 10-20 years or even 50-100 years. They last for thousands of years and move the temperature a few degrees in all of that time.
