i hired a maid service to clean my sisters house one day as a gift. after they left i saw that the paint on the hood (the fan that is above the stove) was scrubbed off. not just a few chips. it looks really bad. so i called the maid service and they had someone come by and look at it and they filed an insurance claim. when they finally got back to me after a month they said their insurance company wouldnt pay for it cause it was too old anyway and they offered me half off a cleaning instead. what do you think i should do?

Take half off a cleaning, or ask them for $25 to go down to Lowes or Home Depot and buy some stove touchup paint. Then just paint over the chips.

You're other option is to sue them in court . . but your SISTER would have to do it, as SHE is the one with the damaged property. And she's going to have a tough time proving it's them.

Depending on your sister's homeowners insurance - you can file a claim with them. If the damage is more than your deductible, the insurance company will issue a check for the cost to repair/replace less the deductible. Then the insurance company can subrogate the cleaning service.

If the damage is less than your deductible, then the insurance company will not pay.

Threaten to take them to small claims court. Now if the hood of the oven was chipped or the paint was in poor shape to begin with you might just have to accept that it would have happened anyway.

Not worth it - a new hood will only run you about 250.00. If you take them to court you will only get the replacement cost for current condition - that is if the hood is ten years old - you'll get the amount needed to replace it with another ten year old hood - not brand new. Your potentially talking about a lot of effort for 30.00

You should never have anyone working in your house touch anything unless they are bonded. That being said, small claims court, or report them to the better business bureau.
