If anyone saw the people cover about the break in murder in Chesire Connecticut and read the story then you'll know. Well I live in Connecticut and that article really scared me and now I'm afraid its gonna happen and I just need to know how to stop thinking about it, especially because I sometimes get panic attacks when I think about death too much.

I live on the CT border so I am familiar with the story. Keep your doors and windows locked that will help make you feel better. Plus THEY CAUGHT THE GUYS. Keep telling yourself that. They are behind bars. If it continues, I would ask for professional help - for the panic attacks.
GOOD LUCK!

I live in DC. I live near a troubled corner and many neighborhoods I visit are good block-bad block areas. Luckily, I live in a building where you have to use a key card and stop by a front desk. But it's doubtless at the back of my mind, and I try to keep it there.

But any time you fear you're going to be hurt, you should know that you are far more likely to die from heart disease or cancer, and nobody is terrified of that.

The news industry folks like to say, "If it bleeds, it leads." So of course you're going to read about the horrific murders in Connecticut or a missing blonde girl more than you are about another 100 people dying of heart attacks.

Sleep with your cellphone...(and make sure it's charged up) (and turned on)...and dial 911 if you have a suspicion that someone is breaking in. Even better ..if you have a portable phone...they should know your address when you call by the phone number. I got broken in on once. I think no matter what you plan...if they're already on you...you forget all that. But I don't really know because I didn't have a plan. Never thought it would happen. Sleep with things that you think might keep you safe. If others call you paranoid...you'll just have to rise above what they say. Actually, you don't have to let them know. Stay Safe !!

Sometimes it helps to write it down. Write your worst fears down. Then read what you wrote. Leave the computer for an hour. When you come back, erase one word. Each time you feel fearful, erase another word. Imagine that you are gradually erasing the part of your thoughts that is making you afraid. When the last word is gone, so is your fear.
Remember, the part of you that makes you a sympathetic, understanding friend is the same part that is making you frightened.
