Nobody can tell you that answer. Just try it and if it doesn't work then try something else until you find what's right for you. Everybody is different and A.A. is not for everyone.

You definitely CAN do it cold turkey ..... BUT .... only when you're truly ready and want to make a change in your life! I don't think that if you're asking questions about this on this forum, that you're quite ready yet. When you ACT and not ASK about this situation in your life ... then you can seek support. It sounds to me like you are already aware that you have a problem ... well my friend ... this will not solve itself ... it will however get worse if you don't step up and do something good for yourself. I wish you all the luck in the world .... I've been there with several friends and family members. Make sure you're ready to stick to it if you do decide to quit drinking. Best wishes!

I have heard of people detoxing on their own, but if your job has medical detox coverage, that might be a safer way to go. AA is not for everyone, but it's free and it's a support group. Good Luck..

Alcoholism is a progressive and potentialy fatal disease. For heavy drinkers unsupervised detox can be fatal! Please seek professional help. AA can be a pain in the butt but it helped me in addition to a lot of good therapy. Good luck.

go to your doctor, there is medication that you take that will make drinking a nightmare........but you should also seek out therapy, on your job there can be and employee assistance program of some sort you should go, this will protect you and your job. Good luck.....

AA works.
Try to quit yourself.
BUT DO IT.
Or they will be saying as they lower your casket, about what a great guy you were.
