At what point should a mom and their crying baby leave the church service? Should they be allowed to stay no matter what, or should a baby not be in church to begin with?

Spend an hour (if you can) at an LDS service.. Crying babies everywhere...
I always wondered what the point is...
How much of the "spirit" can you feel if you are trying to balance crying baby, with toddler and cup of Cheerios, and so-called "quiet book", and other kids who are not paying attention because they have NO IDEA what is going on...
There are quiet rooms for babies, but if everybody used them..No one would be left in the chapel except the old people who are asleep...

Of course babies should be allowed in church, and I don't think they should ever be kicked out (even when they're crying or making noises).

But I do believe it's polite for a parent to take a crying child out of the room if it can't be quickly calmed.

Some church buildings I've been in have been really good for facilitating this. They'll have a nursing room and lobbies where a speaker still lets the parents of fussy kids still hear the services - I think that's great.

Not only do I believe that babies shouldn't be allowed in church or other quiet settings, overly talkative people also shouldn't be allowed.

You never know when the baby will start making a fuss, some parents have the right idea of leaving, but sometimes they just sit there and let them cry/scream/run around.

And you can't hear what's going on when people are talking. That is disrespectful the Pastor/Speaker/whoever.

Our church does not allow children under the age of 7 at the Sunday morning services in the main sanctuary. There is another room with a big screen TV, very comfortable, where parents can take their babies, because it is distracting when this happens, close by the sanctuary, but out of sound reaching! There is also, of course, Sunday school at the same time as the morning service for young kids.

We also have an evening service on Saturday night, especially for families, any age can attend.

My personal viewpoint on this is that if the baby does not disrupt the service, then of course, by all means have the baby in the service. However when it cries and becomes disruptive leave the service. When both of my children were first born, I kept them with me for the first month or so and when they started to cry, I took them out of the service, then they began going to the nursery. I can understand why mom's don't want to leave their babies too soon. It depends on how long and loud the baby cries.

Yes...Jesus loves all the little children...all the children of the world...

Babies need religion, too, though they do have good childcare services. Technically, all people should be accepted into church (though I've known it to be untrue in quite a few cases), and that would include children and babies. Perhaps though, if the baby can't be hushed after a few minutes, the mom could step outside to calm the baby, feed, change, etc, then reenter.

The church is family. Family members should be considerate of parents who try to train their children to sit through services. Parents should be considerate of others who want to hear the lesson, prayer, etc. If the child is too loud, take him or her out to the nursery. Most churches have them. A little disturbance is understandable so stay in service. If a parent doesn't realize their children is causing a BIG distraction, a close family member should lovingly tell them so and offer to help. Again, we're talking about family.

I was at a church where the mother got up to take her crying baby out and the minister asked her to stay because it let him know there is life in the church.

Babies SHOULD be in church, because that's how all kids learn to worship, they learn by watching their parents.

However, a crying baby should be taken out as soon as possible so as not to disturb the rest of the congregation, quieted down by whatever means works (feeding, changing, etc.) and then brought back in.

Parents should also be responsible in seeking out services that "work" for their babies -- not during lunch time, for example, possibly during nap time so that they sleep through the service.

If a baby is quiet, it's no problem. If he/she starts to make more than a little noise, someone should take them out and put them in the nursery. It can be very distracting to people trying to hear the pastor speak. Most churches have a nursery or junior church.
