This noise is not the diesel "rattle".
Oil just changed weeks earlier, never had any probs before. Noise almostdisapeared when taken to dealer.
Using Rotella synthetic. 50,000 mi.
Injector cleaner didn't help. Noise better,
not loud, comes & goes, but lost confidence in truck.

if you are using an aftermarket oil filter, especially fram, the filter could have come apart inside causing blockage. chrysler absolutely will not release an engine under warranty if this the case and there is damage. it could be an injector nozzle sticking, they will casue a loud clang. when it is doing it you can touch the injector lines and feel the pulse. if it is in time with the noise it is probably the injector. do not open the injector lines with the engine running on this engine!

Dylanisapimp Diesels do NOT have spark plugs. They are compression ignition engines.
I am not familiar with a sound described as "rapping." For more information, check out a forum.

It's doesn't seem to like the 5w40 it's recommended to have 15w40 Rotella t need to find out before your hurt the injection pump.Or engine???Call 18009921997 customer service Chrysler An ask them??So you won't hurt your warranty???

maybe your oil pump needs replacing. check your oil pressure guage if you got one to look for drops in pressure. also make sure your valves are set correctly
