how did people before jesus's day get to heaven? what about the rest of the world? i think it wouldn't make much sense for a loving and merciful god to allow wonderful people who were truly good at heart--or anyone else, for that matter--to go to hell simply because they didn't know or believe in jesus as the son of god and all that.. besides, nobody deserves eternal torment like hell, no matter what he/she has done in life. the idea of doing that to someone for any reason is ridiculous. whatever happened to unconditional love?

alright, so most of you are giving me the difference between the before-jesus days and the after-jesus days. well what about people of other religions/beliefs? suppose they are wonderful people but die having never heard of jesus, or simply hold fast to their own faith and don't convert? it would be awfully silly to send someone to hell for standing up for what they believe in, wouldn't it??

My God has many names and resides in all religions who believe in loving unconditionally. I also believe in reincarnation. Those two statement answer your question, I think.
The only people who are going to hell are those who are evil all the way through and choose to love evil and hate good. No matter how much it may hurt God, they give him no choice.

Blessed Be

First of all Jesus died for everyones sins. No just the people after him. When we was died for 3 days he went and spoke to all of the people that had died before him. If you read the bible it tells you so. Then God does have an unconditional love the problem is if you don't love him, you won't ever know. You will only know if you truly love him.

Right now the only way is through Jesus, as Jesus himself said, ""I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.

Previously people were saved through faith in God's Word. In fact the New Testament gives David and Abraham as examples of saving faith (Romans chapter 4) both of whom lived prior to Jesus' incarnation

There are answers to all of your questions, but the real question is are you going to put more trust in your own understanding than the testimony God has borne concerning His Son, that He sent Jesus from heaven to die on a cross for your sins, that He was buried, and that God raised Him from the dead, promising eternal life to all who believe.
If not, you are calling God a liar.
This is what He says:

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."
John 3:16-18

Those who died before Jesus went to sleep.
Faithful Jews and Prophets who died before Jesus went to the bosom of Abraham, which is still the same fate.

BUT

When Jesus died, He spent 3 days with the dead. In this time, He took all those in the bosom of Abraham to Heaven. Everyone else will be resurrected on the last day and judged accordingly.

The bible tells us that the people who died before Jesus died on the cross were saved by their faith in the one true God...the God the bible speaks of. As Abraham, it was "accounted to him for righteousness" because he obeyed God.

God's love is not unconditional, and there is nowhere in the bible that it claims that it is. A holy God cannot allow sin into His presence. Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins. He literally took them upon Himself. But if a person rejects Jesus and mocks God, why should God extend salvation to that person? It is a choice each of us needs to make and the choice that will determine our eternal destination.

God was there. Jesus told people about God and how to get into heaven. It's not God's fault that people go to hell, it's sin's fault and Satan's fault.

God told of the forthcoming of Jesus christ our savior as early as when adam ate the apple. Genesis 3:15 says that i will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. this is God talking about our savior Jesus Christ. the seed is only the womans seed that is Christ who was born of the virgin mary, Jesus bruised the serpents head(satan) by giving sinners a way to heaven. and satan bruised the heal by crucifing Jesus. so even adam and eve can be in heaven as long as they believed god would send the saviore as he had fortold
