yes, lexapro can and will help you. It takes about 2 weeks though for it to be fully effective. Tell your Mom that she can rest easier if she does some research on the side effects. There is no need to be uninformed in this day and age and for fear to come between you is a shame. She will feel much better if she calls the doctor to discuss side effects or she looks it up herself. There are plenty of websites that will give her that information. My nephew who is young took it for panic attacks and the side effects were much more tolerable than a panic attack. good Luck!

Lexapro is a very good anti depressant. I have taken it for about 3 years now. I previously took Wellbutrin, which gave me severe headaches and caused my hair to shed more than usual. While pregnant I took Lexapro through most ot the pregnancy, then went to Zoloft (since I was planning to breastfeed), and that worked okay. After weaning my son from the breast I've gone back to Lexapro and I have to say I like it the best. I can take a lower dosage and get the same -or better - effects as the other meds I tried. Side effects? Haven't seen any. Benefits? Oh yeah. Your mom needs to talk to your doctor about the safety of this medication. I feel for you. I know that people who have never been depressed or experienced panic attacks cannot understand how hard it is for those of us who have.
Seek professional therapy. Your mom's refusal to talk with you over this issue is NOT helping your panic disorder at all. You shouldn't be put in that situation. I am proud of you for doing what you need to do to make yourself a healthy!

Lexapro will not work within 2 days. It can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks for the medication to really start working and make you feel better. I've been taking 10mg of Lexapro for the past 2 months. It took me almost 6 weeks to feel any real difference. I've noticed very minimal side effects. The first week I felt very tired and lethargic. I also felt very nautious. But, all these side effects went away after the first week. I haven't experience any other side effects with this drug. I haven't gained any weight either. Lexapro is supposed to have the least side effects out of all the SSRI medications. Stick with the medication that your doctor gave you and don't stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to.

Your doctor would not put you on any medication that will harm you. At least not on purpose. Since everyone in the world is different, the side effects will be different for everyone. No, you will not feel the effects that quickly. It usually takes about 2 weeks before you feel a difference. And then it might be very subtle. DO NOT stop taking it without talking to your doctor first. Here is link that discusses the side effects from a study. Good luck!

Lexapro usually works within 2 weeks. Effects for any medication can happen but your doctor feels the Lexapro with be of a great benefit for you. It sounds like your mother needs to speak with the doctor.

The only side effects I've seen is that it sometimes bothers peoples stomachs and you may have very odd dreams for the first week or two. It won't completely work in two days. It will help a little but it's kind of something that has to build up in your system. If you start to feel any negative side effects then contact your doctor or tell your mom.

I am on 20mg of lexapro. I have been for almost 3 years now.
In the beginning it made me VERY tired but I got used to that fast. I also had some nausea and stomach pain. It wasn't bad enough to make me stop taking it and it only lasted for a week or so.
Talk to your Mom and help her to understand. She needs to talk to the Dr. It sounds as though she might have some anxiety.

Lexapro takes a few weeks to start working. As for side effects, I don't know of any side effects of Lexapro. I take it, and experience side effects, and my dosage is high, 40mg a day.
Ask a Dr what any side effects are. However, take your meds, because the Dr knows what s/he is doing, better than you or your mom. The risks of not taking the meds are highter than the side effects, if any.

I have been taking it for the last 3 weeks and I like it. It made me sleepy for the first 2 weeks so take it at night. You may notice you clenching your jaw a little too, but other then that it works really well. I noticed a difference in the first 24 hours of taking it. I was much calmer. Good luck hun. You can also check out webmd.com and look it up on there for more side effects.

I know about 10 people who are on Lexapro, and not one of them (including me) has had a single side effect, even after being on it for months or years.
Call your pharmacist and ask about how long it will take for the Lexapro to start working. Pharmacists will answer questions without asking your name.
