I would so love to go back to Mt. St. Anne in Quebec. A bunch of us rented a bus once and went and stayed during the Quebec Winter Festival...nothing was more spectaular that the Grand Allee at night with all it's ice sculptures.

I'm not by any means a great skiier having only skiied less than 10 times but skiing down a mountain with 2 feet of snow has got to be the most exciting experience of my life!

Hoping to do that again with my kids one day.

Any one else get the itch to ski come winter time?

Oh I love those long runs...that is what Mt. St. Anne is like too...would never have thought of ski hills in California but I suppose there would be!

When I was young and fit, Jackson Hole for terrain. Snowbird or Alta for the combination of snow quality and terrain.

But now I am old, and my joints are wearing out, I find Sun Peaks in BC suits me just fine. I have a feeling that my daughter is about to outgrow the place, though.

You should have no problem, if you have good balance. Skiing is all in weight shifting. My main suggestion would be to start slow and don't let anyone talk you into going on the large hills right away. I've seen more people hurt that way. As to skis, I would suggest the modern parabolic skis. These are shorter than the old long skis, but are still longer than the "shorties". Those are useless for really learning how to carve instead of sliding throught the turns. Skis are sized based on your height and weight. Not knowing either, I couldn't pick one for you, but your local ski shop can. Have fun and good luck!

I grew up in Nova Scotia Canada. I used to ski Martock, Wentworth and Keppic (SP?). Out of those three I'd say Keppic has the best conditions, but Wentworth was bigger. Martock was in between and where I started.

Now I'm in California. I ski the Sierras. Best hill has to be Heavenly Ski Resort. Conditions there in the spring are as good as the best conditions in peak season in NS. For length of runs I suggest Squaw Valley. The World Cup Run from top to bottom if you go at a moderate pace and don't have to stop too frequently is a 45 min run (when you are used to a 45 second run 45 min is a workout!)!

Sierra at Tahoe is nice, so is Kurkwood.
