They are marking their territory with urine scent, it is a natural process to warn other cats away.

Assuming it is a male, he is spraying. This is how a cat marks his territory. A neutered cat is less likely to spray ;)
Try using some feline urine remover spray such as Out! to get rid of the smell and stains.

As I'm sure everyone has said, they're marking their territory. They also do this outside too, when another cat comes along they sniff and perhaps do the same, it's a bit like them reading a newspaper

is your cat a tom, because they like to mark their own place more than queens, also doyou have any other animals in your house, as cats some times like there opwn space. or have you just inroduced another cat, cos your cat might just take a while to get used to the new one. hope this helps

I had the same problem with my toms. Solution I had them nuetered. They did not spray in the house. But they will still scent mark, if there are other toms in the area After neutering Ive never had any problem with the toms in the house

you do not give enough info on your cats. I would say that you have male cats and they are competing with each other for territory in the house. u can train them not to do it but they have to be spaid or replaced, which to me is not an option,

My cat started doing that after he was neutered but only when his cat box was not clean.

Marking his territory.
Time for a quick visit to the vet - spayed cats don't do that.
