The name is derived from the Spanish word nevada which is the feminine form of "covered in snow".

It is actually the noun form of the verb 'nevar', to snow. By the way, there is no such thing as Spanish as a language! The official language of Spain is Castilian! Just like there is no such language as Chinese! The official language of China is Mandarin!
