California basically generates almost all of the power within it's state with natural gas fired generators. There are emission reduction systems which achieve almost zero emissions, yet it isn't required to be that clean so the power generators don't use this technology. The best available emissions control technology should be used on this power generation equipment.

You have got your facts completely wrong.

Your statement is entirely incorrect!!!!!!!!!!

Even with the best of technology natural gas fired power plants emit millions of tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere and make massive contributions to Global Warming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These plants are not zero emission plants by any stretch of the imagination!!!!!!!!!!!

Natural Gas fired power plants are not a sloution to the Global Warming problem by any stretch of the imagination.

Natural gas does produce much less emissions than say diesel or coal but unfortunately it is also getting prohibitively expensive as most of the US natural gas is now being imported.
I agree, we should always use the best and most effective technology as it often translates into greater efficiency and lower operating cost.
What really gets me is in the oil producing countries where they show acres of oil flares belching out the heavy black smoke, the least they could do is generate some power with the gas they are burning off rather than just letting it go up in smoke.
Humans do love to waste.

The items mined from the earth to generate heat and electricity are in essence carbon which was stored in the form of oil, gas, and coal.

When they are mined or extracted they release some of that carbon, as they are burned, they release more of that carbon, when they are transmitted to your house, the release even more carbon, and when you consume them they release more carbon.

If we didn't mine or drill for these fossil fuels, we would significantly reduce the amount of carbon released into the earth.

There isn't a way to generate electricity that is entire neutral to the earth. HOWEVER, once you make a solar panel or make a wind generator, you have a finite amount of negative impact to the earth, then the impact is neutralized, unlike fossil fuels which continue to release negative gasses into the atomsphere.

It is true that natural gas has much lesser emissions as compared to coal or oil. But countries like Japan, Russia and Taiwan are using it for generation of electricity as there is not much other options, atleast for Japan & Taiwan.

i could ought to assert nuclear if a 5MW wind turbine isn't an selection for my front backyard. would desire to you're making it a sort of Toshiba pebble mattress reactors inspite of the undeniable fact that? they only placed out 5-10 MW, so are kinda small and comparatively secure. while you're worried approximately loss of capability by using transmission lines, a coal plant could be superb considering the fact that i'm a methods from any first rate sized city that would desire to apply particularly some the capability.

Mike is correct. It's simply chemistry. Natural Gas is essentially methane (CH3). A reaction between CH3 and O2 (oxygen) generates CO2 and water. CO2 is a greenhouse gas. Per BTU, natural gas generates as much CO2 as coal or oil.
