The tumor is deep in the left lateral ventricle. My doc says anywhere from 1-8 weeks for recovery which is what I have found on line. I am curious if anyone hhas had this surgery and if they have any advice or suggestions to prepare me for recovery...

Hey there, I had brain surgery over 3 years ago. I was home from the hospital the third day after surgery and back to work in 6 weeks. My tumor was the size of a golfball in the suprasellar area, which I think is under the lateral ventricles, and more centrally located. It was just in front of the optic chiasm and attached to the internal carotid artery. My surgeon said it would be "tricky" removing all of my tumor. My surgery was a success and the tumor was removed 100%. I have yearly MRI's and so far there has been no re-growth of my tumor.
Expect a lot of fatigue after surgery. I was told that the brain is the slowest part of the body to heal. Give it time and try to rest as much as you can. Although I felt really well very shortly after surgery, fatigue would hit me like a bombshell unexpectly. I have never felt anything like it before. It took about 18 months before I felt like I had my full energy back. Don't expect too much too soon.
My incision scar is all inside my hairline so it doesn't show at all now. It starts at the top of my forehead just inside my hairline and is in the shape of a big C that ends in front of my left ear. My hair was shaved in a strip about 1 inch wide.
A section of my skull was removed about the size of a cell phone. My skull bone was put back in place with titanium plates and screws. Those are left in permenantly. I can feel some of the screw heads with my fingers, but it isn't painful.
Email me if you have any specific questions. I will be happy to answer.
Check to see if your hospital has a brain tumor support group. It helps to talk with others who have been through the same thing you're facing.
Good luck with your surgery.
And to Racer 51, this is the perfect place to ask this question. My surgeon could not describe to me how it felt to recover from brain surgery because he has never had brain surgery. He could tell me nothing to prepare me for recovery. I saw him for a few minutes after surgery and didn't see him again for 6 weeks. He is there for consultations and surgeries, not during recovery. It was other brain tumor survivors and my family that gave me support.

A fruit basket, because fruits are good for health especially when she might be devoid of some nutrients after the surgery. And a handmade card would be nice too.
