I love it here and don't understand why so many people think its a s**t hole. I don't like it up by the border, pretty much waste land, and I'm not fond of the tourist areas. The interior is varied and wonderful, the people are nice, and contrary to popular belief, the police have never bothered me, in fact I have a friend in the state police who's a heck of a nice guy. My neighbor across the street is a city cop.

I live on a small pension here, not rich. I want to stop the stupid arguments about Mexico and encourage them to look at reality, there are 3 pages of help wanted adds in the local paper here where I live many with good paying jobs, the military needs people here. All that bull about "the poor people just want to fed thier children". some of the fattest people I've ever seen live here

Yahoo Answers appears to be the cotton candy of information. People come here to learn something because it is quick, sticky, and it immediately evaporates.
So rather than seek information from legitimate sources, their perceptions are formed solely and only by what they read here.
It doesn't even rate the term education-lite.
And what they read here is consistent messaging that Mexico is poor, the government utterly corrupt, that police are criminals themselves, that no one has jobs, children are starving, its people are forced into lives of outlaws to scratch out a meager survival etc.
Thanks for a reality check. Please keep providing it so people will really get a more reasonable perspective than that provided by the trolls.

The mexicans who love mexico and live in mexico are probably fine people , it is the mexicans who love mexico but come here to get all the free stuff they can carry, there was a story on tv last night about a bunch of mexicans who crossed the boader , during a chase with police they threw full beer cans at our officers and tried to run American citizens off the road at speeds of 95 mph, when the cops caught them they roughed them up a little, these no good pieces of crap had the nerve to file a law suite and won 375 thousand dollars each. so please keep telling everyone how wonderful it is in mexico, maybe more mexicans will stay where they belong, becouse hard working, tax paying, law abiding American citizens can not afford to pay for their illegal joy rides to the United States.

To tell you the truth, Roger, I personally hadn't realized that people thought of the actual geographic area of Mexico as being a terrible place. I've never been there myself, even though I'm a native southern Californian, but most everything I've seen pertaining to the actual country has been mostly positive and beautiful.
First of all, It occurs to me that most likley, peoples opinion of Mexico is made by being shown certain living conditions, like those horrid areas which are portrayed on certain T.V. programs. Example; that infomercial with the kindly, gray bearded gentleman who is imploring you to give money to his foundation to help them in aiding these poor, homeless, shoeless, starving children, while the camara's lens zoom's in on these poor, begrimed, emboogered, fly magnets, one of which he has propped on his knee.
I assume many people who see the appalling conditions in which those families live, while they, (the infomercial creators), sure seem to find the seediest, dirtiest, most ungodly places to use as a backdrop. I'm sure it's to tug at your heart-strings the hardest , as well as your purse-strings.
Secondly, it seems obvious that at the rate those people are flocking illegally into the United States, (and not too many other places), it's not a very big stretch for anyone to imagine that their country, by their own actions, must be, as you so graphically describe as a "s---" hole, or worse. Otherwise, why would they feel the need to go to such life-threatening lengths to leave their homeland?
But, that's a whole other question, isn't it.......

I have been to the non tourist parts of Mexico and it was pretty rough but as a country they have an amazing amount of potential... All of it is beautiful if it were cleaned up and work on the infrastructure were performed by the Mexican government they would be flooded by tourism.
As for employment, the Pew Hispanic Research Center report says that most Mexican illegal immigrants are gainfully employed when they decide to come to the US and that jobs are not the primary reason for the migration.

It's an understandable assumption, especially here, as there are so many more Mexican fleeing to America as 'economic refugees' than there are Americans fleeing to Mexico for any reason...

This is actually a big point to those who bring up how badly mexicans have it so they think we should just let them come by the tens of millions.
The fact is that mexico is not that bad. It is not nearly as nice as the US but thats just my opinion.
There are probably 3-4 billion people on this planet who's lives are FAR FAR worse then mexicans. So to those who "feel badly" for mexicans, you really need to place your empathy elsewhere.

It's because the illegals are greedy, we know that they could build a good like for themselves if they really wanted too. Yeah it wouldn't be a color tv and shiny car kind of life, but it's not bad either.
