There should be one format that wins...but there probably never will be.
It's just like video game consoles....you don't see one company either sony, microsoft or nintendo about to be beat out so that one console remains now do you? And some games are exclusive to one console while others are multi-platform just like how some movies are exclusive to either blu ray or hd dvd while some are on both right?
Unfortunately it looks like bluray and hddvd are here to stay for a very long time.

Hi. Well because of the way both formats have been upsetting consumers with their stubbornness and stupid marketing campaigns both should be scrubbed and a new independent technologically better format manufacturer to replace them with a better high definition DVD.Blu-ray and HD DVD are not quantum leaps in technology.Consumers aren't ready for a new high definition DVD format if it isn't spelled out simply and delivered in a manner that isn't confusing or easily mistaken for existing formats. The only way HIGH DEFINITION DVD can be pushed onto consumers is to replace standard DVD with high definition dvd. But HD DVD and Blu-ray are not being positioned as replacements to standard DVD.They are simply an option -and one that is being largely ignored by the public despite millions of dollars being spent on competitive marketing.
They could exist side by side indefinitely until one gives in.

HD
if only because they are upping the capacity, but the stupid things some studios did was to release certain movies on only 1 format and not the other, i understand production costs, but this just hurts the widespread adoption, people are still weary or the beta verse vhs war, so sales will continue to be sluggish until one format wins, dual readers is not an option as people do not want to be stuck with both formats, what if you want to take your blue ray disc to someone who has a hd player to watch a movie or something? plus you want the compatibility for pc and well as car players, hence 1 format must win out at the expense of the other.

i saw it coming a mile away, i dont understand why some of you stubborn individuals won't admit you made the wrong decision with going hd-dvd. i did my research and made the conclusion that blu ray had too many advantages over hddvd, to me, it was simple. wait, i know why some of you won't let up, you just hate Sony under the false assumption that they overprice, you know, you get what you pay for and Sony is a major player in high quality electronics no matter how you cut it. and don't be fooled, the reason for hd-dvd being less expensive is mainly bc they were forced into it, they had to get the product out there, its despiration.

well, i like both--blu ray has an outstanding picture and capacity, but has had consistant problems from day one, but, i do support hd dvd only because they have not had, any huge problems, or have not changed anything in the formatting-like blu ray has(lawsuit for disc material, spots, and DRM problems to name a few)
so in my opinion, hd dvd is better only because among a matter of reasons, sony isn't behind it, and they haven't changed.
i only wish hd dvd had a better capacity...

Solution! Dual Format BluRay/Hd-Dvd player.
I have one. It plays both great. If you hate choosing, don't support one or the other, support both! =)
