Plenty of folks used scripture to justify slavery in America, and there WAS little thing called the Civil War on account of it...

I think religion has little to do with modern wars.
Jihadist Islamism is a different story but even there greed ,ethicism, tribalism, politics, personality and power struggles seem to be more a cause than Islam. Religious passions, like all passions, are easily manipulated
Antitheists like to drag out the straw man of "Religion'(stripped of all the moral teachings and works of social benefit,of course) to blame for all the world's ills while they become furious when Lenin,Stalin,Mao,Pol Pot and other"dedicated atheists' are mentioned. Secularism and antitheism have murdered more people in the 20th century than all the former fanatics combined did.

How about you go to chicago and ask the jewish community there thats been plagued with murders and hate crimes focused at them because of religion.
I dont know what part of people are murdered every day in the name of religion that you just dont get. Do you think its all thrown on fox news every night or something? You have to dig around to find some religious crimes.

Crimson, our war with Iraq is based on religion. Don't forget that Bush believes God told him to go to war. The war on terror IS Christianity vs. Islam, as far as the terrorists are concerned.

Religion doesn't motivate people to go to war. Intolerance does. Interesting, then, that those who appear the least tolerant on this board are the ones screaming that "Manifest Destiny" is another way of saying that Christianity is the cause of all wars... That's just laughable.

Hey, I've got a little bit of history for you. Between 1620 and 1890, there was nearly constant war between the United States and the Native peoples. It only stopped because the U.S. had basically won, and killed most (99%) of the Natives.
While Racism was a primary factor, Christianity was a large part of the white's "Manifest Destiny" idea.

No, they are motivated by individual differences and personal interests. Religion usually just serves as the mascot and rallying cry to get people to willfully lay down their lives in the pursuits of another persons interests. Patriotism is another tool used for such purposes.

Wars are motivated by profit. Soldiers are motivated by religion.
Not all of them of course, some are motivated by money, a desire to kill, a sense of duty or, in some rare cases, the belief that what they're fighting for is worth fighting for.

Blaming all wars on being or believing in Christianity is like blaming the the worlds pollution on the spitting cobra.... it makes no sense..... at least to me....... GREED, and POWER make up the most of the reasons for going to war........ I said MOST...... I would like to know, what those that do blame war on Christianity would do with or about people like Hitler or Stalin, or others like them ?? seriously I would..... God bless

Go study the history of WWI, WWII, the Korean War, The 100-Year War, and others, and see what % were religious, and how many were territorial.
Good luck.
