they can send free mail but stamped mail gets priority over free mail so unless u want to be waiting around for a while and hope that they dont lose the mail somewhere while trying to get it over here...

Usually it is an APO address in NYC.
so it is the same postage as if mailing in the USA.
If it is a pkg. . .it depends on the weight.

We can send letters back free from here (yes, I'm in Iraq). All we do is write "Free Mail" in the top right corner of the envelope. It can be up to 6 ounces I think, something like that. We do have to pay for packages and stuff to send home, but if you sent a hundred envelopes pre-addressed all 100 would be free for your troop to write back to you:) Thanks for your support!

You can send them by regular US mail, and use our rates of postage (varies by weight).
The letters go through the UAE (United Arab Emirates) and then on to the bases, which all have US Postal Service.
And by the way, I applaud you sending care packages. They need as much support as they can get, and the little things are a big deal to those guys.
*USA ALL THE WAY!!!!*

You only need domestic postage to mail something over there. You do not need to send SASEs over there, as all soldiers in a combat zone only have to write FREE MAIL where the postage normally goes on their mail.

For a letter mailed it is standard postage and when we mail back its FREE! I am not sure why you would need to put postage on a self addressed envelope.......

You're not sending it to Iraq, you're sending it to N.Y. or San Francisco. The gov't sends it the rest of the way, so same US postage rate.

If you're addressee has an APO number, then regular US postage is suffucient: it's like you're sending mail to another state.

FPO and APO address are treated as domestic mail.. so a regular stamp is sufficient.

what a lame organization that they tell you about the envelope but not how much postage to use. so typical these days, i'm not surprised in the least bit.
