President Bush served during the Vietnam conflict. And if the Air Force had decided to send him there - he would have gone.

What wars have _you_ served in?

Or are you a hypocrite?

It's amazing that people can remember if someone had drilled in the Air National Guard over thirty years ago. I joined the Naval Reserve in 1993, but I don't remember everyone who was there at the time. A friend of mine was in the same reserve center at the time, then left for a decade, and we don't seem to remember each other.

I don't believe any ANG units were deployed to Vietnam and the F-102 interceptor would not have served much purpose, as the North Vietnamese Air Force did not have many fighter aircraft.

George Bush Sr severed in the Navy in WWII as a torpedo bomber pilot and was shoot down by anti-aircraft fire. He was rescued by a sub and returned to duty.

George Bush Jr served in the Texas Air National Guard as a fighter pilot during Vietnam. He was never sent oversea or activated for a period greater than six months, so he is not a veteran of that war.

Bush was in the Texas National Gaurd during the Vietnam War. Had his unit been activated and he served 6 months or more, he could officially call himself a Vietnam Vet (if he served in a combat zone) or a Vietnam Era Vet (if he did 6 months, but did not see combat).

It's "which," not "witch," and he was an F-102 driver in the ANG, Vietnam era. The 102 was an obsolete interceptor not used in combat.
His dad was in WW II, and shot down on a bombing run on a radio installation on a small island just north of Iwo Jima. He lost both crew members but of course survived to become President.

George H.W. Bush (Bush 41): World War II
George W. Bush (Bush 43): He got a cushy berth in the Texas Air National Guard, making a trip to Vietnam unnecessary. Even then, he didn't show up for much of the time.

He was in the National Guard during the Viet Nam war, he didn't seem to have shown up after a while and then got out early so he could work on his fathers campaign. Nothing like pull to get you up and out.
The National Guard back then was how you got out of going to Viet Nam, and a placement there was considered plum.
There is some talk his dads friend got him in ahead of several other young men.

That "chaotic" person is so naive. What, I wonder, do they feel we should have done, with an unstable dictator who committed genocide and used chemical weapons against his own people and had special 'rape rooms' where people were 'interrogated' and was rumored to be developing nuclear weapons, and refusing to allow UN Inspectors access to areas that he had agreed to allow full access to as part of the peace settlement after the first Gulf war? Maybe we should have just sat around and given him ample time to develop whatever he wanted? What a bonehead.
