I can't imagine an employee at PetSmart saying that so I'm hoping you meant some random woman you met in the store.
They have a decent screening policy at PetSmart and if you reported it to the Store Manager I'm sure they'd have a talk with the employee if this was really the case.
If PetSmart was all for uncontrolled breeding they wouldn't constantly put forth an effort for stray and homeless animals by sponsoring them in volunteer/donation drives and hosting SPCA etc. adoption programs nearly every weekend.
Sure - some of the sales people (particularly fish and birds) haven't been the most knowledgable at times but there's a fine line between being knowledgable and being downright ignorant.

OMG what a nut job. A better question is- How could you let all those puppies be gassed to death every year from no one wanting those bundles of nature?? Every single rescue, spca, etc in our area is ful to the brim and refuses to accept anymore dogs right now. If those dog parents had been spay/neutered those dogs wouldn't be in the pound because too many were dumped to find homes for.
Not to mention, dogs don't have menopause like people and worry about such things. They are Dogs, wonderful as they are they just don't have that level of comprehension.

ok let me start by saying that i work for petsmart grooming so i know what goes on first hand. The issue with Bertie falling out of the bathtub DEFINITLY should not have happened and you should complain about that because what if your dog was seriously hurt from that (god forbid). it does not matter how much the dog is bouncing around in the tub or what size it is, every dog should be properly secured and if they are not yet secured in the tub the groomer should be ready for any action the dog might take and be prepared to catch him/her. i have caught many dogs from falling (some of which were about 70 pounds) so there is really no excuse for that. your second issue about the lady grooming the cocker spaniel was misunderstood on your part. i don't mean to offend you but you really don't know what it is like having to cut a dogs feet hair when they are resisting as hard as they possibly could, so yes there might be some feet pulling involved. Also, when the lady said what she did about the sedation, she was not being out of line at all, because unfortunately Petsmart is not allowed to take dogs under sedation, but for some dogs that might be too stressed, sedation is needed and it is very difficult for us to complete a grooming process with a dog that is too hyper or too stressed out. Most private groom shops will sedate dogs to get a groom finished and that is only to prevent the dog from getting hurt. so i think that if you were to complain, the only thing i would really mention to management is the fact that your dog fell. i hope my response was helpful to you.

Don't listen to her.. you are being a responsible pet owner. I have personally picked up more than my fair share of animals set off beside the road over the last 13 years. I have had them seen by a vet, got the shots, got the spay/neuture and then tried to find homes. If I couldn't, I kept them. I have been over run at times. If more people were like you, I would have some money in a savings account right now and may not have to work until I am 100 years old!

Send that stupid b!+ch my way and I'll take her to the shelter where they have to take sweet little dogs out of the kennel with wagging tails because they think they are going on a walk or to a home, but they're stuck in the gas chamber with other dogs, suffocated with gas fumes, then they are put in a freezer until they can be incinerated in a big pile with the other euthanized animals. And that happens several million times a year. Yeah, that's part of nature.
Edit:
And no, she isn't a tree-hugger or animal advocate (i.e. PETA) if she's promoting irresponsible pet ownership.

She's uneducated. There are many good reasons to have your dog spayed. It reduces the population of unwanted puppies, and there is a HUGE problem with this. It also reduces chances of mammary cancer, and eliminates chances of ovarian and uterine cancer, and pymetra.
If she goes by this, your dog can't TELL you anything it wants. I'm sure some dogs, just as some people, Don't want to deal with being a mother. You just have to do what you feel is best for your dog.

This gal comes under the heading of a major "loony".
You should have asked her how she likes having hundreds of thousands of dogs killed every year in this country alone because of indiscriminate breeding. Even pedigrees end up dumped in kill shelters through no fault of their own = their owners can't keep them, their owners die, etc.
and the dog, sometimes late in its life, ends up dumped and killed.
This gal needs to engage her brain instead of her mouth.
No one should be breeding dogs unless it is for the good of the breed - which means dogs who are shown and whose blood line is researched back for generations to make sure there are no hereditary illnesses.
Until there are no more homeless dogs or cats waiting hopelessly in kill shelters, it is incredibly cruel and irresponsible not to spay and neuter pets.
It does them no harm to be neutered or spayed, rather keeps them from getting reproductive diseases or fighting over females.
This woman has no idea what is going on in the world - both with pet overpopulation and human.
When theoretical unborns have more rights than innocent babies, human or canine, we are in trouble.

there is nothing wrong about spaying your dog. I have two dogs. I had my female dog spay at 5 1/2 months. She is a really good dog. I think it makes them better dogs. I am not sorry I had my dog spay. Tell that lady to mind her own business.

Is she crazy??? she's probably the one contributing to the dog over population. If you're not a professional breeder you shouldn't be breeding your dog just for the chance to be a part of nature. She's the reason our pounds are full and dogs are dumped on the side of the road.
Someone should have spayed her.

That's crazy - especially when you consider most shelters won't even let you GET a dog unless you promise to spay or neuter it... I had to sign a contract and take it back 6 weeks later....
..... Was hers a pure bred or something? Because I know more dog breeders that are like that then mutt lovers...
