Vick to plead guilty to dogfighting charges
The offense is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, although federal sentencing guidelines most likely would call for less.
"Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of guilty to those charges and to accept full responsibility for his actions and the mistakes he has made. Michael wishes to apologize again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter."

janey-
wow. you are certainly a passionate person! I do see where you are coming from. I don't recall other dog fighting scandels w/ 'famous' people in recent times, but I don't always catch the news. If I knew who they were, they'd be on my s&%t list w/ Vick!
Hunting (to me) is totally differnt than putting a dog in a ring & forcing it to kill the other dog or be killed in a horrible fashion (starvation, electricution, bullet to the head). I don't hunt & I wouldn't unless I HAD to to fend for myself.
Killing a bird = jail time? Yickes - I'd be in jail. I've killed 2 w/ my car in the last 15 years.
Just like to have an abortion is a choice, so is killing any living thing & you have to live w/ the outcome of your actions.

I am sure he won't even suffer by paying the fine. However, the time in jail should be a punishment to him. I think he should get the whole 5 years but most likely he won't spend more than 2 years in jail. I also hope the NFL bans him for life what kind of a role model is he for young kids? A bad one!!!!!

There is a difference between hunting animals to eat and killing dogs for fun!!!! Michael Vick was wrong and should be punished as it sounds like he is going to be!!!

I have to agree with "janeywb" for the most part...I DO believe Vick is guilty of animal cruelty. He knew what was going on and he had no regard for the health or well being of those dogs. HOWEVER, prison time should be reserved for those who commit offenses against human beings, not dogs. I live in the state with #1 per capita female and #4 per capita male incarceration rate (Oklahoma) and I see child molesters and pornographers getting probation every day. That's what's sick!!! Why does our society thrive on making an example out of celebrities? Paris should have had to do PRISON TIME long before Vick! (she just did solitary celeb time in the county, not REAL JAIL time) Vick should be fined heavily due to the extent of the abuse, but he should be allowed to continue his pro career in the NFL and keep the beds free for the real dregs of society!

I just heard it on breaking news! I also heard that the other ones that were involved, are turning against him! As far as I'm concerned though, no punishment or fine would be harsh enough for him or the others involved, after the torture they all put those innocent, helpless animals through. I don't care how much he apologizes, the damage is already done, and those dogs cannot be brought back!

janeywb, your argument is so flawed from every angle. Everything you compared dog fighting with isn't prosecuted because it's LEGAL.

I'm kinda glad he entered his guilty plea instead of dragging it out. He'll still get a slap on the wrist but he's lost a lot of endorsements and possibly irreparably damaged his career and that hit him much harder long-term that these legal proceedings and that pleases me. he's obviously a man who finds money more precious than life so I really hope his feels the hit financially. The court of public opinion is much harsher than the court of law, especially when your career depends on their approval (translation: spending$$$$).

What the hell is wrong with the America? It is amazing how America loves dogs more than human beings themselves.
Trust me, I love dogs, but the punishment Vick is getting for just owning a home where dog fighting took place is RIDICULOUS!! Think about it, people hunt and kill animals all
the time. Hell, they even have hunting season.
So you mean to tell me that its okay to kill a bear or dear, but if you kill a dog it means jail time?

It really doesn't make sense to me.

I truly believe that PETA and the media are trying to crucify Vick. Just earlier this year 2 other athletes were caught dog fighting but they weren't convicted and the media DID NOT tear them apart. Its like it didn't even happen.

Basically, all I am saying is killing animals should be illegal across the board. Not just with dogs. And not just with star athletes..BUT PERIOD. If a person kills a cat, they should be convicted. If a person kills a bird, they should be convicted. If a person kills a dog, they should be convicted.

WHATS REALLY SCARY IS THAT AMERICA THINKS ITS OK FOR A PERSON TO KILL AN UNBORN CHILD (ABORTION), BUT IF A PERSON KILLS A DOG..ITS A CONVICTION?!!

OUR PRIORITIES ARE ALL WRONG!!!
