Britons would be fine if they could get over the fact that, yes, a few convicts were sent to Australia umpteen lifetimes ago, and if they stopped pretending it's some kind of trump card they hold over us. 21 million people are NOT all descended from a bunch of bread thieves. My people were free settlers - yes, there were those too!
Other than that, they're ok.

I have to agree with allusian fields. We get tired of hearing about the "convict stain". One of my great great greats was a former convict, all the rest were free settlers and the absolute first in the country (1791-2) was a soldier. I'd guess that this is typical for an "old Australian" who's had ancestors here for a long time.
Britain seems to have a lot of problems with chavs and ASBO people. We have them here too, but they don't seem to be quite so prevalent. I guess it depends where you live, there are plenty of that sort in parts of Sydney and some of the denizens of the smaller towns here are not the smartest.
Aside from that Britain seems to be overcrowded and the people seem to be largely underpaid. That of course has led to labour problems through the 50s to the 80s. In some respects it has been rather behind the rest of the world in the use of some technologies, that could have to do with the generally lower pay rates in some fields. I believe that for instance supermarket scanners were almost universal in Australia some years before the British began to take them up.

It depends on the personality of the individual Pom. Some are great, some are awful, and every gradation in between.
