if he is obese or not depends on the body structure.
if he is a small cat, that is definitely to much weight.
the best way to know if a cat is fat is looking straight down at him. if the outlines of the cat are even and no big belly is visible on the sides he is in good shape.
looking at him from the side there should be a straight line where his belly is. if its hanging he's too fat.
another way to know is to grab his chest on each side while he's standing up. if you can feel the ribs it's OK.
laying down you can also see if hes fat. a fat cat will have a little belly between the back legs.
or better yet, ask a vet.

Can you feel ribs when the cat is standing? Can you feel the top of the flat bone of the hip right in front of the tail when he's standing?
If you can't, then he's obese.

my cat weighs twenty or more pounds hes huge
