How much do you believe in love? Would you be willing to die out of love for others?

Jesus is God. If you don't agree with that, you have a false "god".

The only ones that talk unceasingly about "love" are those who reject Jesus and want everyone else to, even though Jesus, who is God, is also the definition of love.

I believe in love so much, that I believe what so many before me have agreed to. Love is a verb. If you don't DO anything to show your love, what good is it? It's definitely there, but it's so selfish to not do anything about it. Yes, I can love someone so much that I would die for them. It could even be a stranger. Circumstances will only be able to tell.

I think it was Holden Caufield (not sure on the spelling of that) from Catcher in the Rye who said that the mark of maturity was being able not to die for a cause-but rather to live responsibly for a cause.

Scripture does affirm that there is no love greater than if a person lays down their life for their friends.

I just think that it is probably more of a challenge to live for the cause of love and the love of Christ than it would be to die for the same reason.

I can say "I'd die for my daughters"-no hesitation. To live my life as their dad-to do all that is required for the rest of my life for them-that's also something I plan to do to the best of my ability-but its more difficult in my opinion.

I really don't know-nor can any of us really know what we would do if we were truly facing death on behalf of someone else. We can't know until it happens.

My two cents,
Dwight

Yes, I believe in "God". I believe in Jesus, too. I believe in our planet, too. I love all those I listed, for they taught me how to love. Love is the most powerful form of energy there is. When you love, truly, deeply, unconditionally, your energy levels reach levels beyond those you'd normally reach. When you love like that you feel high, right? You feel as if anything is possible and that nothing can beat you, right?
And, yes, I'd die for others if necessary...especially those whom I love. I'd die for you, too, for Jesus died for us so that we may live, and I'd do the same for you, wouldn't you?
I have said it before, and will say it here, too: Jesus was the ultimate Pagan...he taught the basics: Love one another...maintain the balance...do whatever you want to do, just don't be hurting each other.
Sounds Wiccan to me...
That's why it works for me.
Remember the words of a 20th century prophet:
"All you need is Love!"

Peace to all!

Yes, I believe in agapé love, not the sappy kind of love that passes for love these days.

Agapé is emotionless, and tells you the truth regardless of the cost. I'll choose truth over a liar every time.

Here is one answer that deserves a comment:
"I don't see that a capacity for sacrifice is neccessarily religiously-induced; it could be innate. Animals will die to protect their young."

Instincts are put into us by mindless evolution. Unlike the process of evolution, we have the ability to think, so shouldn't we question our instincts? Let's say anger is instinctual, for example. Should we sacrifice our lives on the instinct of anger or control our instinct and use logic? So with that, I say it is logical to reject instinct as a motivation for self sacrifice.
