If there is no God, love is just another feeling. Feelings are just shots of feel-good drugs that the mindless process of evolution puts into our brain when we think certain thoughts. Love, compassion, mercy and justice, etc. is just slavery to a drug addiction.

Jesus Loved us so much that he laid down his life for us. One of the aspects of perfect love is how much we love, the love that would lay down your own life for the sake of others and God. Yes I would lay down my life for you and for others.
