I made an electronic payment on my visa through my bank, as I have done for the past 7 years. I called the bank and had the account rep transfer a payment from my checking to my visa on the due date.

Well, as it turns out the transfer was never completed on their end.

In fact, the next month I made a payment by check for the usual minimum amount, not knowing that the electronic payment did not get processed.

Two months later, my visa was declined at a store. I called to check on the problem and found out that the bank's original mistake had resulted in a 60 day late payment on my account.

The bank now says "there's nothing we can do" about this error. They're is blowing me off and not returning my calls about this problem. I've been trying to resolve this since April of 2007, with no luck. Any suggestions?

I made the payment via phone in February. The payment via check was in March. I didn't double check to make sure the 1st payment went through, as I should have. But in 7 years of paying in this manner, I have never had a problem. I called on April 2nd, exactly 60 days after the first payment was due, because my card was declined at a store.

Can't the bank contact the credit bureaus and have the error removed, since it was their fault?

I've already agreed to pay the late charge fees, even though they made the mistake...

To clarify, of course I look at my monthly statements. This is not my main checking account. Every month, I transfer exactly the amount needed for the payment into this account. Then I call the bank to make my payment, since it's quicker than mailing in a check. That's how I know that the bank never made the payment on my visa, because the exact amount of the payment was still there in my account...

Unfortunately, unless the bank tapes phone conversations, there is no proof that you called the bank and requested a transfer. The bank's contention that "there's nothing we can do" about the problem is probably correct. About the only thing you can do is to access your credit report and insert an explanation about the late payment. And make sure you aren't late again.

Did you notice within the months time that the payment that was never received was not processed. You should have gotten a bank statement to balance your check book. If it didn't appear as taken out then they claim you should have noticed they didn't take payment out of your account. Make sure you are checking you checking account at least on a monthly basis to catch errors before they are too late to correct.

Call the bank and ask to speak with a manager and find out where he/she is located. Advise them again about the problem. If they agree to correct it, put it in writing stating that they agreed to resolve the problem. If they refuse to resolve it, just tell them in writing that unless it is resolved within 10 days, you'll write to the President of that bank and also the Banking Commissioner. Send 1 regular, 1 certified and keep a copy for your files.

So you are telling us that not only do you not look at your credit card statements, you also don't look at your bank statements.

I suggest you quit blaming someone else for something that could have been minimized if YOU had checked your credit card statement and/or your bank statement. So my further suggestion is that you START checking your statements from your bank, your credit cards and anything else you are billed for.

Did you not notice the payment wasn't posted on your credit card statement? That would have been the time to call and investigate.
