My sister-in-law had a baby 8 months after I did, so I shared with her some of my baby items. Now our boys have outgrown some of the things. She's not planning to have more children, but I am. Is it rude to ask for the baby items back before she sells them at her garage sale this weekend? What should I say?

Just tell her that you plan on having more kids in the future and would like ths items back that you have lent her.

Because this is family, you have every right to ask for the items back without much explanation. You gave those items to her, knowing that she could make use of them. Now that she no longer needs them, it would be most polite to return them, even if they were given and not lent to her. These items hold memories for you and you also plan on having more children, so it is only fair that she gives them back, rather than selling them for a quarter.

Just tell her the truth. you shared the items with her and you would like to have them back because you are not done having children. plus that stuff was yours she has no right to sell it in a yard sale without asking you.

Just tell her you'd like to have the stuff you lent her back, since you are planning on having more kids. If she has things already out for her garage sale, show up and take your stuff back! It's not rude at all, it was yours to begin w/ and you let her borrow them!

Ask for the items back. Baby stuff is expensive. If you plan on having more kids you should be able to ask for your baby items back. Just be nice and tell her to return them. Good Luck!

It all depends on the conditions in which she got the clothes from you.

Did you "give" them to her? If you did, then they are hers to do with as she wishes. Did you make it clear that the clothes were just a loan? If so, then you can certainly ask for them back.

If there is ANY uncertainty, I would let the clothes go. Even a fair amount of quality baby clothes is nothing compared to a good family relationship.

No- you should ask for them back. I lent things out to everyone that needed anything, when I find out I am pregnant with my next I will tell them that they have 9 months to give it back but in your case I would be honest and let them know before they sell it. Don't worry- you have a right to.

No its not rude, its rude of her to sell them in my opinion. Most people know baby items are to be given back to the person who loaned them to you.

Just say we have been talking we want another baby, could I get back the stuff I loaned you and go from there.

i would ask for them back right away! why should she profit from them after you bought them and she got to use them for free? i was absolutely appalled that my sister in law was going to sell a baby walker i had loaned her at her garage sale- i'm 10wks pregnant! i bought the walker and brought it here for her to use for her baby- she treated it like crap the whole time. we weren't planning on having anymore kids so i hadn't told her i would want it back- but she knows i'm pregnant and was gonna sell it! i can't believe the nerve of some people!

Yes, ask for them back....she should have been thoughtful enough to ask you if you wanted them back before she decided to sell them at a garage sale...
