Thinking of getting a PS3 and trying to find out what it can do? Before I buy one

you can't copy playstation 3 games. The ps3 cd's are acutally even more advanced that its nearly impossible to copy the cds now.

I don't think that you can copy PS3 games onto the harddrive. If it were possible, you wouldn't even be able to copy no more than 10 PS3 games because the Blu-Ray disc has such a large capacity. For instance, a game called Lair is supposed to be 25GB in size. If you copied Lair to the 60GB PS3's harddrive nearly half of the harddrive space would be gone. But you could buy a bigger harddrive for the PS3 and take out the factory harddrive, but you can't copy PS3 games to the system. But the option to copy PS2 or PS3 games may be possible in the future through system updates.

It depends on the game. Some will read directly off the disc, some will require extra space on your HDD, and others will give you the option of partial install, full install, or off the disc. Having them on the hard drive only means faster load times, and then you will need to have the disc in the drive to play the game for legal reasons. Games that are downloaded off the Playstation Store will be on your hard drive as there will be no physical copy of the game.
