Do an exchange- for example you could use chocolate, show it to him then tell him he can only have it if he lets you clip his nails, he may have a tantrum or something, if he does, he isn't allowed his reward. eventually he'll want the chocolate really bad, cause he knows he can't have it. If it works, than over time make the reward smaller and smaller, until eventually the reward is "good boy- go watch TV" , but be care full not to do that to quick. My mom used this method on me- except it was to get me to take medicine- you can use it to make your kid do anything! Also file them after cutting to make them softer and help prevent them breaking. Of course if that doesn't work- give him sleeping pills, so he won't wake up while your clipping them.

Finger nails an old nurse advised me to just use my mouth might be kind of gross but safer since they tend to wiggle a lot. Toes you just gotta be tough and matter of fact. My son has little engrown's all of the time and believe it or not after a bath he asks me to use my teeth because its quick and doesn't hurt so bad. Toe nails usually don't have to be cut as often which helps. Try making a game out of it, sit at the kitchen table have him hold his hands flat on the table and each time he holds still give him a tiny marshmellow or gummy.

Hold him so that your arm is over the arm you want to be doing the nails on, then grab his finger so that the rest of his hand curls under your hand. I've never met a small child that didn't fidget and fuss over having their nails cut. My father in law showed me this way to hold them to do it and it works well enough. They still fuss and fidget but it's hard for them to get out of that position and it makes it to where they are just still enough that you won't cut them. With some kids it helps to do it when they're sleepy too, like after a bath. After a bath will make the nails themselves softer and easier to cut too.

my daughter is incredibly ticklish and so I used round ended scissors so i knew i wouldnt clip too far then i would do one toe at a time throughout the course of the day, sometimes even one toe a day, and that took a lot of encouragement and distraction. Some days it went better than others.

Maybe you nicked him once when you clipped them? Try biting them gently when he is sleeping.
If he is afraid of the clippers, do not use them while he is sleeping, if he wakes and you are clipping his nails, he will be even more terrified and you might mess his sleeping pattern up as he will be scared to sleep in case you try again!

I lay my daughter on her back or sit her in my lap and hold her hand. I tell her what a big girl she is to let mommy cut her nails and it's wonderful that she can be still and control her body. Hold him there when he struggles and he will learn that things go much smoother when he is patient. (He is old enough to sit still for a couple of minutes- don't think otherwise).

My daughters 4 1/2 now and i still don't trust myself. I always ask my mum to do it when sophs stays over. That way if she loses the tip of her finger at least i'm not the guilty party.

try doing your son's nails when he is taking a bath his nails will be nice and soft then so you might be able to just pick them off.But be careful with the toes you dont want a kick In the mouth.
