I recieved news this morning that said that I needed to have six baby teeth pulled in order to get braces. I have an extreme fear of dentists and am terrified. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to be more relaxed about this>?

It is only normal to be nervous about the procedure. The baby teeth come out alot easier than permanent teeth because the roots are alot shorter. If you are really scared you could always go see an oral surgeon to have them taken out because they will be able to put you to sleep to have it done. We have alot of patients do this because they don't want to know what is happening. You could ask your dentist to refer you to an oral surgeon that he prefers. You will do just fine and everything will be ok. Good Luck!

I understand your fear and there's not much to do prior to going but trust the dentist. Just know that after you get the novocaine you won't feel a thing. During the procedure concentrate on your breathing and listen to the music playing. Ask for laughing gas if you think you'll need it. They'll give you pain medication to take after the procedure. Whatever pain you have afterward will wear off in a couple of days or sooner and it really won't be very bad at all since these are baby teeth. Sleep a lot and take care of your mouth as the dentist recommends.

I'm right there with you! I was too scared to get braces as a teenager because I would have had to have 4 teeth pulled. I saw my sister go through it, sucking on bloody gauze pads, and I thought no way! So I waited til I was 26 and had a whole oral surgery, where they took my wisdom teeth and 2 regular teeth, and I was out and then drugged up afterwards. I also got anti-anxiety pills, Xanex, to take the night before. I now have perfectly straight teeth and am very happy. Ask if you can be really drugged up so you don't know what's happening.

I had to get 5 teeth pulled when i got my braces a few years back , you wont feel anything as they numb your teeth before they pull it out . Just relax and be happy you will have straight teeth soon .
