Some quick hints that may save your life.

1. If you have to ask a question like that, you more than likely dont have any business squaring off against him. The ONLY way to learn how to fight is to get your a$$ handed to you a couple of times to learn what NOT to do...and you dont sound like you are there yet.

2. DO NOT BELIEVE the hype you hear from people in how to "win a fight". Most of those solutions are "dojo made"...meaning they are taught in an ideal environment and 99 times out of a hundred dont work when someone is fighting you back. Its easy to do those things when someone is standing still in a test dummy position...its harder when someone has punched you in the back of the neck and your ears are ringing.

3. Whoever is going around and low rating the answers with guns in them..isnt realistic. In most cases now, guns are used as the final solution, even amongst kids. Even though you may win the fight in the street...it doesnt mean he wont follow you home. Be realistic, even if you believe guns are a cheap way to win a fight...doesnt make them not around..they are around and very easily something to put in your face..its a reality you have to deal with.

4. WHAT IS A STREET FIGHTER exactly? Just because someone fights outside doesnt make them a streetfighter. Someone who knows a "streetfighting martial art" doesnt make them a good streetfighter.

The person that answered first had the right idea, avoid the fight altogether. Let me say, Im not an advocate of peace...as a matter of fact, I dont even believe in it. But here is the simple plain truth.

There are no rules to streetfighting. There is no streetfighting martial art. You can take an MMA champion and bust his jaw with a two by four...or break a bottle and rake it across his eyes. THESE are the realities of streetfighting, real streetfighting. Anything around you is a weapon...everything you have..hands, pens, bricks, chards of broken glass, broken wine bottle, blades...feet...it doesnt matter. If you think that attacking someone from behind is dishonorable and wrong, then its very likely you do NOT belong in a streetfight.

The only thing that matters in a street fight is that you dont die. The problem with most solutions that are given is that they are "honorably violent"...but lets be honest. The most effective solutions are dirty..ugly...and brutal. That, you cant be taught...its either in your nature or it isnt.

And honestly, if you are asking at this point how to win one...you honestly...really...and I mean this with the kindest intentions...dont belong in one.

Pain. WHat you ask is not so easy to answer because a streetfight is so short that a lot of strategy does not come into play. The most aggresive person usually wins. You have to remember that action is faster than reaction so, if an attacker overwhelms you you are pretty much done for unless you can do something to nullify his attack like grappling. In a tournament whos purpose is to win and not to survive a good strategy is to cause pain. If you can hit them in a good target and make it painful an aggressive person looses his will to charged in. If you wash the UFC take a look when Chuck Liddel fights a grappler. You see a grappler strength is to wrestle the person to the ground. Chuck can defend himself in the ground but that is not his strenght. His strength is that he hits hard. He hits so hard that after a few atemps grappler second guess themselves when going for a shoot. Because they get affraid of getting close they give up a possitional advantage which is taking the person to the ground. Long story short Chuck knoks them out.

A thing you can do is to take a page from the filipino martial arts. What a lot of these art teach is to make defense painfull. For example, if someone throws a roundhouse kick instead of trying to catch it try to hit it with your elbow. or position yourelf so that the instep of the kicker meets the point of your elbow. Believe me is very painful. Most often than not it nulifies that leg. There are ways to do this with other strikes. If you have a hard time hitting the opponet in the common areas (stomach, face etc etc) then go for striking the limbs. Kick to the tighs for example. There are certain parts of the forearm and bicept that hurt when hit. Again block a punch with your elbow. Long story short make it so that coming in to strike you is a very painfull experience.

- You want to actually keep your distance
- As they attack, you back away..circle away from them.
this will frustrate them (possibly make them walk away)

this will also give you more time to think...slow the situation down a little so you can register what is going on. The attacker may actually think you know some combat training..etc and may just walk away or stop.

.....anyway...kicks to the groin are an option. Inside leg kicks to the knee cap (either one that's closest to you is fine). Nice straight punch to the gut or jab in the nose and/or neck (throat area).

If you buy some time and slow down the situation then you become the attacker just that quick. NO MERCY!!!

p.s. I don't support street fighting. Can be very unpredictable!

Well, amongst those who took the question seriously, many have mentioned attacking the throat, balls, groin and heart, all of which are valid. Here are a couple more hightly sensitive areas. Fewer people know of these, so he might be less likely to defend them. One is the xiphoid process, right in the center where the ribs first come apart. The other is front mid thigh. Get an effective punch or kick to these, and your opponent should be stunned. Then either get outta there or jump on him, depending on your own goal.

If you are unarmed and you want to fight back land a good kick to the groin using as much force as possible. Try to land your kick using your shin bone as the striking point. Depending on your fighting ability you should either run away immediately or try and subdue your assailant. In either case call the police immediately.
Some less than lethal incapacitating product would probably be your best bet.
ex. Pepper Spray, Stun Guns, Tasers.
Of course shoving a gun in their belly usually gets the point across pretty well.

If you are unarmed, facing an armed assailant your best bet might be to go along with the demands.
Just depends if you are willing to give in to those demands or not.

TURN HIM, TURN HIM, TURN HIM.. Most of these headstrong ( and usually drunk) street instigators won't have real fighting skills, and generally will come straight forward and try to overpower you. STAY ON YOUR FEET, and most importantly use them. The simplest way to defend a straight on attack is sidestepping left or right. Feint like you're going to throw a quick, hard shot, and see how he reacts. If he doesn't even flinch, you're probabely in for a rough rumble..but stay off the ground. If you must throw punches with him. Fake high, and pound to the ribs, stomach, kidneys, anywhere low.. The torso is extremely sensitive to bare knuckle punches and elbows. Commit to your blows...make sure they hurt. Most importantly stay calm, and you'll survive

If you have a gun, pull it out and threaten him. If he has a gun, run and zig-zag. There's only a 5% chance he will shoot you, and even a less chance that he will hit you.

If neither one of you have a gun and you feel that you have the physical advantage:

1. Jab him in the eyes with your pointing and index finger as hard as you can.

2. Punch him in the throat or down low.

3. Kick him down low.

4. Using your thumb, press it at the base of his skull as hard as you can for at least 30 seconds...you'll knock him unconscious.

5. Buy a pepper spray ring. In close combat, touch the button and spray the stuff in his eyes. Run!

6. Buy a stun gun. In close combat, press it anywhere against him, press the button and he'll fall writhing to the floor. Run!

7. Buy a taser gun. You can stand up to 30 feet away, fire and he'll be on the floor before you can blink. He'll be unable to move for at least 5 minutes.

Whatever you do, be careful and don't take foolish risks. Trust your intuition.

Good luck!

If your not into combat, stay off the street. Stay out of bars, or places where such confrontations can occur. If you avoid the potential for confrontation, you avoid the confrontation. It doesn't take a great deal of intellect or foresight to refrain from kicking over Harley's at the local biker bar or striking up conversations with crack heads a the local crack house. Most people don't go looking for trouble, and usually trouble doesn't find them.

If you associate with violent criminal types, odds are weapons make steet figthing obsolete. Othewise simply stay out of areas that invite trouble.

If you get mugged, you have to fight.

Most street fighters can not hold up their arms after about 15 seconds of punching. So stay away and do not let them grab onto you. Once they are out of breath you can leave. Fighting in the street is very dangerous because some people carry knives and guns and don't follow any rules.
